they do this every year on packpride to fuck with the idiots on InsideCarolina...which is really saying something because most of the people that post on Packpride are barely breathing.

^^, V

And UNC has about .00000001% chance of reaching a NC game in the next 5 years, even if they run the table one year.

nope, not even close... higher salary, higher recruiting budget, higher overall budget, higher budget for assistants, a lot more TV exposure, better conference, better TV deal etc

if by right now you meant team performance than yeah, but that's stupid because if both teams were performing well then neither would be looking for a coach in the first place

They won't give him more than a million dollars more than Roy.

Old Roy wouldn't stand for that.

If someone comes at him for 3.5, hes gone.

they would have to pay through incentives though...they cant from the univ. pay him anymore than what he makes.

hell, they had to have a closed door meeting to change legislation just to hire the guy at the rate they pay him now.

i'd be quite shocked if he left UNC this early. that just seems like it would be a total bitch move, and like him or not, he doesn't seem to be in the saban-petrino mold. in two more years, i expect him to bounce, but not just yet. of course, i hope i'm wrong!

^ no, see, this is what butch davis does.

he had to take a job where he could easily turn the program around, because he wasn't going to get the big time hire without building a little hype after being gone for a bit.

he's going to jump, and then he'll probably only stay 3-4 years wherever he goes before he goes back to the NFL.

No way that is a lateral move, and if they do make this type of offer I could see him going. He seems to be of the same mold as Nick Saban in that regard.

Not sure how you can even compare Tennessee Football with UNC, a lot of people would argue that UT is one of the top 3 coaching positions in the country.

i was reading threads on the clemson and tenn message boards...unc fans are shitting their pants, they are outnumbering all the posts by everyone else and just saying ignorant stupid shit, i love watching them squirm, im sure most of they dont have any relation to unc or even pay money to the school anyways

i hope he leaves or rapes them for more money

it is this simple: if UT offers 3 mil or more, butch is gone (unless he really loves unc and doesn't care about the pay raise, which we know isn't true otherwise he wouldn't have conned them for more money last year; first coach ever to get a half a mil raise basically for going 4-8). with all the other crap UT can offer that is better than unc, along with the chance of a national championship (something almost impossible at UNC) he is gone if they offer that much money. he would not be worried about the talent lack there. if there is one thing he can do it is recruit; if he got unc to where they are talent wise in two years he should expect the same of himself at UT where he would dominate in-state more than he can here.

i hope he leaves, takes john blake with him, and sends unc to the crapper. question is for unc if he does go is who is their next hire because they can't settle for someone mediocre now or a lesser known name. not after getting butch. their fans will demand another big name hire regardless if he would just do the same thing and leave when a better job opens.

i said it then and stand by it now; them hiring butch was great for the short term but i thought potentially disasterous for the long run. that big of name coach puts you in a cycle that is tough to get out of. may go the nfl route again or something but usually those don't pan out. i can't wait for him to leave them for UT.

jaybee, would you be happy with butch or do you want more of an offensive innovator considering he is a d coach and yall's d is fine?

our defense is a paper tiger this year... they are A-Rod, a bunch of stats when it doesnt count. Eric Berry is the only thing keeping them above water.

I would take Butch in a heartbeat, he is a great guy, helped my family out when he was down at Miami (my sister lived there with her kid), great recruiter etc. but I just dont see him leaving now.

Everyone at Tennessee keeps bringing up Gruden but I just cant see that happening.

^unless gruden wanted to give college a try (with UT being a good place to make that attempt) I don't see them. Tampa is a consistent team in the league and he should be pretty secure there job wise and with great money.

That is cool about the thing with Butch. Eric Berry is a beast. And not to get your hopes up but I think he would leave in a heartbeat. He is not a young man and if he ever wants to win a national championship and be remembered as truly great he needs to get somewhere in a hurry where he can build them up. a place with a realistic shot at a national championship once every 4-5 years instead of once every 10-13 like at UNC with all the pieces falling correctly.

supposedly he got his agent to call clemson to get a feel for their job; might be nothing but shows he is at least willing to look around.

^all that helps, but i still don't see him leaving the situation he has in Tampa unless he really wants to give the college game a try (he might feel he could dominate it with all the success he has had in the nfl)

i do see yall having a real shot with butch though. and looking at it extremely bluntly, it would be a little bit of a slimeball move but this is how the world works today. the almighty dollar drives sports. over a 1 million raise a year - a lot of people would go to a new job even after only being at their current one for a short term for that much money.

they have to get rid of fullmer first. If Butch Davis goes anywhere, it'll probably be to the NFL again to show that Cleveland was a fluke. Clemson is the best job out there right now because they'll give a coach SEC money without having to deal with the likes of Florida, Georgia, LSU, Bama, Auburn, and Spurrier every year.

Butch Davis has to be a double edged sword for the donors at UNC in a big way.

Let him go, and you look like you don't care about football. You also lose a great recruiter (albeit a not tremendous coach).

Let him stay, and you'll keep writing unholy checks to beat out the SEC schools, shell out millions for a new stadium (which he is demanding), and be forced to pay his staff huge salaries too. In addition, you have to give Roy a raise (a guy who's actually won something) because UNC is and always will be a basketball school.

I wish we had their record, but I'm fine with not having their coach.

It would actually be a demotion of a move...

The ACC is down and prime for a team to move in and take over. Butch has some talent and some energy in the fan base. Yes unc-ch IS a bball school first but they will support their football team, especially if they are winning. Butch can win ACC titles and get to BCS bowl games if he chooses to stick around. If he goes to UT he has to compete with Bama, Florida, UGA, LSU, just to win the SEC, along with having to consistently beat the other SEC teams just to be in a position to contend for the SEC.

He can stick around unc-ch long enough to be a legend(a unc-ch football legend). In the SEC if he doesn't win, and it would be tougher to win, he'll just be an also ran.

yeah, and the fan base has already been stirred up enough to where you'd have to go find another big name coach just to keep up their interest and $$$ so ultimately they could risk being burned again

playing in half empty stadiums with and against mediocre football players with very downplayed media coverage and half the salary (you'd get in the SEC)

or

getting the best recruits in one of the best college stadiums in the best and most covered conference in the country all while getting PAID

you tell me what a coach with a huge ego and a resume like his would prefer?

^ yeah, no shit, they are constantly expanding/remodeling Neyland.

Hell, they've remodeled Thompson Boling more recently than the Dean Dome, its easier to win the SEC than in the ACC, therefore Tennessee is a better, more prestigious position than UNC.

WOO HOO! Look at me! I'm a dumb motherfucker!
