Ouch. These rankings are usually poor, but 462nd?

Practically? Practicality? That probably doesn't help

1. Listing of Alumni in the 2008 Who's Who in America (25%)

2. Student Evaluations of Professors from Ratemyprofessors.com (25%)

3. Four- Year Graduation Rates (16 2/3%)

4. Enrollment-adjusted numbers of students and faculty receiving nationally competitive awards (16 2/3%)

5. Average four year accumulated student debt of those borrowing money (16 2/3%)"

I'm not so sure those are the best things to use when ranking universities, really...

OK, and what number research center were we ranked? And how hard is engineering (4 yr grad rate)? And what jobs do we get when we graduate. I wanna see how many of our blue asshole neighbors are out on the street right now...

I hate that shit.

Haha, isn't this the volume you basically pay a bunch of money to have your name printed in a book?

Pretty sure the lower the number here, the smarter your students were

"BOWDOIN COLLEGE?"

Bowdoin is a small liberal arts college in Brunswick that is small safe, and pretty. I was just there briefly and know someone who works in finance who just got assigned to work for TARP (Troubled Asset Recovery Program) as part of the Congressional Bailout.

In ANY event, the biggest scam going is that the Federal Government just dumped multiple millions of dollars into developing brand new military facilities in Brunswick for housing of military personnel who will never see the fresh paint on the walls.

The plan is to auction the closing base cheaply to Bowdoin, so the DoD just subsidized a brand new student housing unit spanning acres of brand new facilities, all at the cost of the taxpayers in 2006. They chose to close the base in Brunswick and that is who gets the infrastructure.

I would consider Bowdoin after having seen it. I caught a cheap cab ride for some delicious lobster on the beautiful downtown. It's classic New England and cold as balls.

and by the way, they pronounce the name of their school "Boh-Den," not as it is spelled. The grads are relatively successful, more as a function of New England rather than the big name in my opinion.

Lazy, piss-poor journalism...half of their criteria was taken from websites and probably took about 30 minutes to compile...also, heavy tilt towards liberal arts colleges

1) There should be a seperate ranking of universities and liberal arts colleges.

2) Isn't NCSU ranked around 70 nationally by USNews?

3) Looking at the top 25, Wabash College, Centre College, and the 2 military/af academies have no business being there. The liberal arts colleges in the top 25 (except for Wabash and Centre) are renowned excellent schools and are among the 25 liberal arts colleges as per USNews and have been for a decade.

4) No way in hell Stanford should be 24.

5) These rankings are shit, and I can't believe Forbes came up with these. Sick.

Also to graduate in 4 years is much easier at a liberal arts school then it is a place like NCSU. You can take a lot of your major classes in a semester and get them over with. A school like NCSU with a lot of science programs you have to take a lot of prerequisites, so if you decide your major a little late (like I did), you're already really far behind.

LoL University of Cincinnati is ranked #516. Northeastern next to last

It is just skewed against large schools - if you look at the largest 25% of schools ranked, only 1 is in the top 50 (UVA).

All of these rankings are only worth the criteria they used to rank them.

Ultimately they're all meaningless.

If you're a high achieving individual, you'll do well regardless of where you get your degree from.
