so i finally get to update my cell phone with alltel, and just wanted to see if any of you had suggestions about a new phone. I have a treo 700wx, and I like it enough, but its just time to upgrade. The phones I'm looking at are:

HTC PPC6800
Palm Treo 755p

Any recommendations or thoughts?

Alltel just got the Blackberry Curve in the last few months, I'd say that's definitely the route to go. I owned the 755p before my Curve, and while it was a decent phone, the Curve out performs it in leaps and bounds.

One thing that really disappointed me about the 755p was the lack of GPS; sure, there was additional hardware available to give it gps capabilities, but @ $200 and up, I may as well have purchased a standalone model at that point.

Since Blackberry controls such a large portion of the smartphone market aimed at business users, the number of available 3rd party applications is several times that of the Treo, in my opinion the Google Apps suite alone is enough to warrant purchasing the Curve.

Also, the 755p is pretty bulky in comparison to the curve (5.6 ounces to the curve's 4.2) . The trackball takes a little getting used to, particularly migrating from a touch screen phone like the treo, but the other features more than compensate for it.

once i got my iphone, that feeling of "i've always gotta have the coolest phone" went away. apple brainwashing is a wonderful thing.

^the ipod touch has pretty good battery life. Some games will kill the battery in 3 hours, but mainly web browsing doesn't kill it too bad.

I am loving my G1 - you can unlock them now if you wanted to stick with alltel, though T Mobile may be cheaper - you get the my faves and a $25 data plan (unlimited w. 400 text messages).

It is made by HTC but is so much more responsive that the other HTC phones I tried, likely due to not having MS on it - the android market is pretty sweet, new apps every day.
