Quixtards.
Had my fill of them when I worked in a copy shop. They were always coming in to photocopy crap and would try to chat me up while I was making their copies. Some of my regular customers got sucked into it. It was kinda sad to see their normal legitimate business activity decrease while their Quixtar activity increased. None of them ever seemed better off for it. 11/1/2008 11:04:33 PM |

It would half make sense if the business was to actually sell the products, but the main goal of the business is to recruit more people.
I spoke to a guy once and he said it was actually forbidden to try and open a store to sell the products, you HAD to ONLY sell them one on one. 11/1/2008 11:08:54 PM |

I got tricked into going to one of these - of course the person who took me had to sort of lie about it because anybody would know its a joke. he said it was a networking opprotunity for entreprenurs
I think 95% of the people there are like....wtf....when they realize what they got themselves into. I loved it when the speaker would ask people in the small audience, "would you like an extra $5000 a month?!?! yea, what about you?!" 11/2/2008 10:22:09 AM |

there was some book selling thing on campus one time that (to me) sounded a bit shady. they called me saying it was some internship, so i came in early on a sunday morning to hear their spiel. something about living in dorms and selling books out in arizona. not quite as bad as this, but door-to-door sales with likely low profit and the tacked on "you can do it if your motivated" attitude.
i made sure to let them know exactly what a disingenous goon squad they were on my way out. 11/2/2008 10:56:51 AM |
