I'm far more worried about the possible repercussions of an Obama victory. Christ, the man's already had two (admittedly vague) attempts made on his life. Frankly I think the odds of him surviving his first term are lower than I'd like, and if something nefarious happens I fear for the country.

If he were assassinated I wouldn't fear for the country, but he would become JFK x10. He is already borderline messianic, and if he is killed it would just seal the deal. I really don't see any sort of violence or social strife if he were to be killed.

Hopefully your more optimistic view would win out. I tend to think that there would be visible, intermittently violent outrage on the part of minority populations and their sympathizers, met with a disproportionately more visible and violent backlash by elements of the more backwoods white community, at which point everyone would just act out visibly and violently against everyone else.

There were riots raging for days in 110 cities after MLK Jr was assassinated. Dozens of people died, thousands and thousands were injured. And he was killed by a crazy asshole, not some white supremacist.

Sorry, forgive me for believing in my fellow man. What does that say about you, that you think people, presumably dark skinned people, would erupt in riots across the nation, instead of mourning?

You really can't compare the 60's and MLK with now, well you can, but I think it would be a faulty comparison for a myriad of reasons.

Now, if he were assassinated tomorrow perhaps some violence, but it would be extremely limited. But if he were assassinated during his first term, which is what I was talking about, I see it more of a mourning/martyrdom scenario rather than an outrage/violence scenario. But again, so for not being a bigot.
