What's everyone's first reaction? Happy, Mad, Nervous?

I voted McCain even though I didn't really like him.

I feel a bit nervous about what President Obama will do, but I am trying to stay hopeful.

Thrilled.

Excited.

Overjoyed.

In Tears.

As a Native American (Cherokee), it's amazing for me to see how far the country has come in the 28 years that I have been on this earth.

Truly a top 5 day of my life.

grow up.

you're such a fucking message board douchebag.

Wake up and realize that no matter what party you follow, this is a great day for the United States.

We all just witnessed something that will be in the history books from here on out.

[shrug]

Happy, kinda, but simply because Obama was better than the alternative. Regretful that the US will likely never return to small-government policies, barring some major catastrophe on an international scale.

Overall?
Kinda meh.

fucking retarded

we elect someone who only won because of their race and that's a good thing? He wouldn't have won if he was white.

and what's so great about it? Just because something happens that hasn't happened before doesn't mean everyone is happy about it nor does it make it a logical decision

When we invaded Iraq and toppled the Saddam statue, that was a historic and fabulous day for America - and we can see how that turned out.

Yeah...and who said that was a great moment?

BEERGOLFTILE, I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you have never done any international travel.

You don't have to answer that...I personally don't care.

But your narrow-mindedness amazes me.

Yes I am sure there is Margret thatcher day in england too to celebrate the first female prime minister.

I am just looking forward to the day when people start realizing that we elected a president, nothing more. How he does in office will determine if this was historic or not.

What if things get worse? what if his tax plan brings on a 2nd great depression, just like raising taxes on business and wealthy did under Hoover?

Congrats on the win, but honestly, get over yourself, it's not that big of a deal. How he does as a president is far more important than the color of anyone's skin....

And since no one talks about it, he IS half White too....
perhaps there needs to be a Race draft a la Dave Chappelle!

I am tentatively happy enough. Admittedly I would have been happier if McCain had won, but I'm not upset either way. I just hope things don't go as far south as I worry they might.

It was a highly publicized and a symbol of US achievement

AT THE TIME

however, it turned out to be a huge mistake in the long run

just because something changes doesn't mean it's historic or good for the country. congrats on a minority winning for the sake of his race.

and I have been all over the world and travel for a living - id live nowhere else due to the low taxes and capitalistic nature of the US

Why don't we swear people in on, say, the Constitution, or the Declaration of Independence?

I mean, besides the fact that modern politicians shit all over the documents with their policies, it makes much more sense than using holy books... and honestly, even a bible nut would have a hard time forming an argument against signing someone in on the document they are elected to uphold.

I have said nothing racist - just facts and some joking around about how race was central to Obama's victory

and some people admire other cultures and wish their own was more like theirs

^^^ I agree entirely. I think that the most sacred document for the president should be the constitution and the bill of rights in particular.

swearing in on the Bible means you are swearing an oath under God to do all you can to help the US as president of this country (in a not so good summary). Now the Bible in this country obviously does not mean what it once did but when this was started when our country was founded it represented something truly important.

these verses in ecclesiastes prob. had something to do with it i would say:

Quote :
"When you vow a vow to God, do not delay paying it, for he has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you vow. It is better that you should not vow than that you should vow and not pay."

just makes it very important to keep the vows made before God. but like i said this country is not nearly as focused on the Bible as it once was

just to add as well: swearing on the Bible was so important to our founding fathers, majority christians, becuase you were swearing BEFORE GOD to uphold the constitution and all it said. so in essence you were swearing on both but it was before God. Used to mean a lot in this country

whatever the people that will advise him on it tell him what the best way to go is; he has little experience with something of this magnitude and will need advice from people that have been dealing with the situation and have more experience in these types of matters

hopefully he is advised very well; regardless of our economy, which is fine by the way (if the media would quit making this such a HUGE issue it wouldn't be that bad), the biggest issue facing our country is terrorism, the wars, and our foreign relations imo. this is why i voted mccain. i seriously fear for our country's safety for the coming years and hope obama is ready to handle this increasingly fragile situation

that is what i was saying. he won't be able to manage something like that by himself, not even close. no one could. that is why he will need great people around him who have been current with exactly what has been going on in Iraq and not what the news tells us everyday.
