Ok not sure what you would need the less than symbol for but even if you dont show the discimals you would have to round.

Obama/Biden (DEM) 49.67% rounds up to 50 or off to 49
McCain/Palin (REP) 49.40% can only round to 49 until it reaches .5
Barr/Root (LIB) 0.60% rounds up to 1 or off to 0

so McCain can't have 50% unless the totals changed so that he has .5 (which would still prove to be a statistical nightmare on NC's part)

Um yeah I'm not metro, I'm actually from the country... but nice try. What I was saying was if you just round up or round off(as you have said they supposedly did) there is no need to use any other descriptions as you would see that you would either have:

50 (D), 49 (R), 1 (I) for rounding up (equals 100, valid, sound and accurate)
or
49 (D), 49 (R), 0 (I) for rounding off (equals 90, which would not be as mathematically sound or accurate, but still valid)

With the counts provided here.

I am guessing that you are using some new poll results? I was using what was posted earlier that showed McCain at 49.40, not 49.5 (see ParksNrec post). So if that has changed it is fine. They would round as you say, it just wouldn't be a good showing for NC to have somehow counted 101, when it is mathematically wrong.

The thing I am saying is that even if they don't show less than signs or decimals, there is still no way for it to seem like 101%, it's just mathematically impossible here unless there are more results besides what is listed here.

If it made it to that point (scotieb's eample) then its more likely a sad showing for the mathematical prowess of NC's electoral system.
