I'm actually writing a paper about this subject. I fully believe there should be a basic knowledge test before someone can vote. Just for the record, I voted Obama, so don't lump me in with the conservatives.

The test would have two forms, one for literate people one for non. Literacy should not define if a person can vote or not. Those who are illiterate would take an oral test. Not difficult questions, just questions to make sure people aren't voting for/against a person only because of race/gender.

Such as:
Who is the current V.P. ?
Are we currently at war?
What politcal party does the current president belong to?

If you cannot answer basic questions like that, you should not be allowed to vote.
