my setup at work basically is a laptop with wireless internet (plus a port to hook into the network with a cable.)

I have a printer with a built in print server.

My question: Can a computer get internet via wireless, while at the same time hook up to a router connected to the printer? (and nothing else)

Yes, just make sure the the "private" printer network uses a different network than what your wireless is using.

so, if your wireless network is 192.168.1.0 / 24 your printer network needs to be something else.

In other words, check the ip address on your wireless network. Disconnect from wireless and connect to the wired router and make it use a network different than what your wireless is using.

As long as they are using separate networks, your computer should figure out the proper routes on its own.

If the printer is ONLY hooked to your computer, why not just use USB?

the printer does not have a USB port.
Also, the software does not want to install on my computer for the parallel cable
additionally, when I set up a small network, my computer cannot see the printer.

If you haven't gotten it working yet, this should work.

IP Address: 10.100.1.1
Mask :255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: Leave Blank

DNS/Secondary DNS: Leave Blank

Now, you just need to give the printer an ip address like 10.100.1.2
