First of all, it was not me... I wasn't even in Raleigh.

I found out last night that several people I know (all graduate students) were given drinking citations for drinking inside of the convenience store adjacent to El Rodeo. In the past, the owners of the store had gotten a temporary ABC permit to allow people to drink a beer inside of the store. Everything was legit, the police had been in there before, and there was no problem.

This year in the same store people were doing the same thing. One of my friends even asked the manager of the store about the permit, and he said they had one this time as well. Well, the police came in and wrote them all drinking tickets, and two of them have to face the campus judicial board.

Can someone offer some insight here about what the problem was this time, and why it was different than in years past? (and don't come back with RAWR THEY SHOULD HAVE KNOWN IT WAS ILLEGAL RAWR because they are not typical stupid undergrads, and actually checked with the manager who said everything was taken care of.)

One of my friends has the same problem with the store next to El Rodeo. They even asked before they opened and the cashier said yes, he had the permit. Your friends were not the only one.

honestly, for all of my tickets, even the bullshit ones

it has been way easier to just pay jamse crouch the $200 and never go to court than go in there and talk to the dickhead DA and cop about it
