As a rule, its not considered a good job if you have to submit an application.
11/8/2008 2:07:08 PM
nope. only captains with shittons of hours get paid well
11/8/2008 2:07:20 PM
i'm not sure this is the type of job you just show up and ask for an application for
11/8/2008 2:09:34 PM
I think you have to be cleared by Uncle Sam to fly commercial planes with people on them, and oh yeah you need pilot license, I almost forgot.
11/8/2008 2:11:27 PM
11/8/2008 2:12:10 PM

I have a friend that just went to commercial flight school, first year salary ranges between 22-30k. Commercial pilots make NOTHING, until they move up to the jumbo jets and international flights. Which can take years.
11/8/2008 2:28:29 PM
does military flight hours count into the higher pay grade
11/8/2008 2:28:59 PM
if you were flying heavy's
11/8/2008 2:29:21 PM
interesting
11/8/2008 2:29:41 PM
what does a first officer do?
i was told 6 figures

My dad was an airline pilot for a long time. You don't make shit until you get a ton of experience. The industry is basically all about seniority.

so are the pilots allowed to carry weapons now after 9/11? I know they were talking about letting them carry pistols.
11/8/2008 2:36:08 PM
lol
11/8/2008 2:36:13 PM
11/8/2008 2:46:54 PM
You start out making jack shit... my bro in law has been working for 6-7 years and makes around 100k/year.Ohh and btw noen ... he still flys a regional jet so.... "nothing" is relative but 100k isn't badjumbo jet pilots make 300k and only work a couple weeks a month.[Edited on November 8, 2008 at 2:54 PM. Reason : .]
11/8/2008 2:52:52 PM
given that pilots barely pilot planes anymore, i'd say they get paid pretty well. most of the flight is handled by computers
11/8/2008 2:55:06 PM
$delta

Thing is, I only pick battles when I know I'm right.Or it's obvious that the other person doesn't have a clue what they're talking about. So it's not hard to always be right in those situations.
11/8/2008 3:16:32 PM
talk about airplanes or get the fuck out of here

#2.PilotWhy Kids Think It's Cool:Basically, being a pilot has the two most essential components a child looks for in a job. Big machine? Check. Motherfucking flying? Check. Furthermore, if movies are to believed, flying a plane involves a lot of pulling levers, flicking switches and pushing buttons, and kids love that kind of shit. It's as if someone put wings on an arcade. Why the Job Actually Sucks:In general, pilots fly either passenger or cargo planes, which involves three stages: Takeoff, Landing and A Long Time of Being Bored, when pilots have to sit in a chair for hours on end and they can't get up except to go to the bathroom. If that sounds familiar, it's because we just described the experience of everyone on an airplane. Kids hate flying in airplanes. In fact, every kid who has ever sat near us on a plane seemed to believe that flying was somehow poisonous, and the only antidote was for them to scream their friggin heads off for the entire six hours from New York to L.A. Kids, at least, can go to sleep or watch the in-flight movie; not pilots. Pilots can't sleep at all, and their in-flight movie is… the sky.

I think being a helicopter pilot would be hella lucrative over the next couple of decades...1. Most helicopter pilots were trained by the Army during the Vietnam era. They're aging out and there is a shortage of people to take their place.2. It's hella hard and if you fuck up you're probably going to die. The lazy people will just become airline pilots.3. Training is very expensive. Consider this a barrier to entry. You'll have to pay into it, but once you have the appropriate license this will just keep the competition away. Besides, it's probably cheaper than college or any of that type of bullshit.

^I've considered the National Guard to get heli license. Plus I like to help people, you know, when it rains and stuff.
