In the makes no sense department.

They are still a few years away from their new park and they just traded away 3/5's of their rotation... just odd.

Shit the Cardinals were gonna trade Ludwick for Holliday when Ludwick is nearly as good and makes $2.5 million a year compared to Holliday who is going to demand around $15 million most likely.

Yeah, this came out of deep left field.

The Rays' Longoria (3B) and the Cubs' Soto (C) win ROY. Cy Youngs released tomorrow.

Tim Lincecum received 23 of 32 first-place votes to win NL Cy Young honors on Tuesday.

Quote :
"Lincecum received 137 points to Brandon Webb's 73 and Johan Santana's 55, so it's clear the Giants had absolutely no need to push him so hard down the stretch in a shameless bid to secure him the award. Webb and Santana received four first-place votes a piece. CC Sabathia received the other, though he finished behind Brad Lidge in fifth place."

I'm surprised Sabathia finished in 5th

Good for him. He deserved it. Santana should have been 2nd and if the Mets bullpen didn't blow cock he would have won it...

Brandon Webb was barely the best starter on his own team...I would say Johan should have been 2nd.

So glad Lincecum won I like him.

Cliff Lee hasn't pitched in almost 2 months

They should do it during the playoffs like other sports

Cubs are giving up on Kerry Wood. I am surprised seeing that he had a decent season (finally) last year. I assume he is asking for too much money. The Yankees seem like a good fit for Wood. He could take Joba's spot as the 8th inning guy.

" Dustin Pedroia received 16 of the 28 first-place votes to top Justin Morneau and win AL MVP honors.

Pedroia may not have been the best choice for the award, but he clearly was the superior option among the guys who actually had a chance of winning. Joe Mauer, the AL's most effective player, finished a distant fourth, receiving two first-place votes. Morneau received seven first-place votes, Kevin Youkilis two and Francisco Rodriguez one. By points, it went Pedroia (317), Morneau (257), Youkilis (201), Mauer (188), Carlos Quentin (160), K-Rod (143), Josh Hamilton (112), Alex Rodriguez (45), Carlos Pena (44) and Grady Sizemore (42)
"

this means that I had the AL and NL MVPs on my fantasy team this past season

Rob Neyer pretty much spot on.....even if Pedroia isn't born, the Sox win the WC over the Yanks.

Also compares him to Chase Utley, who finished 14th in the NL MVP voting.

Except Chase Utley's stats don't compare to Pedroia's. Rob Neyer is an anti-Red Sox guy just like you are so of course you guys will be pissed. Joe Mauer didn't lead his team to the playoffs so how can he be the MVP. He's a catcher and a catcher will never win the MVP just like it will be a rarity for a closer to ever win the Cy Young. For Mauer to have been MVP he would have needed to win the Triple Crown because he is a catcher. Pedroia led his team down the stretch, granted the Sox had several canidates that led the team Youk, Lester, and Drew.

Yeah your right. Utley's are better:

.292 33 Hrs 104 RBIs .380 OBP .535 SLG

.326 17 Hrs 83 RBIs .376 OBP .493 SLG

Now tell me again how his stats don't compare?

I stand corrected, but making the playoffs is what got Pedroia the MVP, had the Twins beat the South Siders in the one game playoff things may have been different. Mauer and Pedroia had very similar batting averages Mauer had more RBI's, Pedroia had more doubles and homers and had more total bases doing this while hitting leadoff or second in the order most of the season.

Obviously IRod won the MVP in 99 and he was the first since the 70s with Munson and Bench. Campanella was a great player, in today's MLB it will be a rarity to see another MVP catcher.

It went to Pedroia because he was hot at the end of the season. Mid way through the season it was Youk, and he was the team MVP in my opinion, but Mourneau and Mauer were a good tandem also.

pedroia was hot in the middle and end of the season

his batting average per month:

April .306
May .260
June .356
July .350
August .374
September: .326

Youkilis wasnt "hotter" than Dustin at any point in the season really...

What do you want from me?

There was no clear cut run a way favorite for AL MVP this year. So comparing what an NL player in the same position does is not going to mean anything in the AL. Utley hit a lot of Home runs in a park that is a home run park. Rob Neyer is small market team fan so he will always root against the success of the big market teams (Red Sox, Yankees, Cubs) Chase Utley's stats were comparable to Pedroia's and I stand corrected on that but, comparing NL Stats to AL Stats is like comparing apples and oranges. Thats what is wrong about Neyer's argument you can't compare the voting in the NL to the AL especially when there was no clear cut MVP in the league this season.

Josh Hamilton was the closest thing to a sure thing IMHO.

If Kinsler doesn't get hurt, he puts up even better numbers.

How does he finish 7th behind KRod? Are you kidding? And WTF how did Jason Bartlett get a vote? lol.
