"OTSU —

A second, normal-sized egg popped out of a giant egg laid by a chicken raised at a high school in Shiga Prefecture, a school official said Saturday after breaking open the shell. The huge egg, which was 8.1 centimeters high and weighed 158 grams, was laid at the Yokaichi Minami High School in the city of Higashiomi in late October. The egg was scheduled to be displayed after grabbing headlines in local and national newspapers.

neat.

I don't see how there is going to be another egg inside the smaller egg as they are suggesting.

^^^i'm not sure what isn't clear and they aren't "suggesting" anything.. an egg was inside of an egg. not complicated

^yup. Not complicated, which is why I don't see how there would be a third egg.

^^ Yeah, I don't think so either. I think it's just a way for the school to milk the media here.

that would be a double yolked egg

but a double shelled egg really isn't all that uncommon...no more so than other abnormalities

it's caused by undue stress or fright (like a thunderstorm)...usually in older chickens

basically the egg reverses it's direction in the reproductive tract and gets a new layer of albumen and egg shell...the already formed egg ends up going through the same final process twice...

it would be like putting two coats of paint on a car or something

[Edited on November 11, 2008 at 8:43 PM. Reason : i've just seen the shit. don't have a clue about the actual biology of it. ]

same difference...

a conjoined twin is just a 'yolk' that didn't split completely
