I actually had a sniping lose last night. Bid was at $44. I bid $61 at 4 seconds only to find out that someone else bid above me. In any case, they payed $62 instead of $45 because of my bid.

I won two snipes this past week though and they were both well below my max bid.

all you have to do is just enter you max bid, if someone outbids you then fine, you didnt want to pay that much anyway, if not, then you get it at the lowest price you can

Do you know how many noobs there are who don't know how the max bid function works? I seriously think half of eBay users don't understand it. They'll bid in $1 increments until they surpass your max bid and then stop bidding even though they would gladly go higher if given the chance. At that point you pretty much know you just have to snipe them by $1 and the item is yours.

Sniping saves money. You'll win more auctions and pay less for the items than using your method.

I sniped a boat last year (for someone else) and the seller got three e-mails immediately after the auction ended offering to pay hundreds more than the winning bid. N00bs got sniped and they were pissed!

^^ Umm...no. I think that was the point of that anecdote. Sniping gives you an advantage because of the fact that people don't use the max bid feature.
