I'm pretty sure the governor selects a replacement with approval from the state legislature. But when does that happen? Who is representing their states now? 11/11/2008 3:05:58 PM |

The Senate's not back in session until January 15th.
So, uh, there's no hurry. 11/11/2008 3:10:07 PM |

I figured it was probably something like that (congress keeps the weirdest fucking hours), but I was too lazy to google. 11/11/2008 3:10:48 PM |

They'll continue to represent their states in the lame duck session. They're currently discussing successors for both of them. I think they've eyed a few people for Obama's seat (apparently Jesse Jackson Jr. has declared himself the best for the seat without Obama's approval) though I know at least one person has declined to take it. I'm not too sure about Biden's seat though, I haven't heard much. 11/11/2008 3:32:50 PM |

I heard that Biden's son Beau was being "groomed" for the seat (I believe he is the Delaware Attorney General). Unfortunately, he was deployed to Iraq for the next year or so, so now I don't know what they'll do.... 11/11/2008 5:30:59 PM |

Appointment in Illinois to serve out the rest of Obama's term. So until 2010.
Rhode Island will be an appointment until 2010 as well, I believe. 11/11/2008 9:00:17 PM |

Actually, both get to keep their seats and they can vote in congress while also being president and vice president -- thus realizing Sarah Palin's conception of government. 11/11/2008 10:11:30 PM |

They're going back for a special session and any senator sworn in before the new freshman senators come in for the new session will have seniority. So, uh, there's some hurry.11/13/2008 11:10:04 PM |
