and yes, the legal system deemed it legal. however NCSU is not the legal system. NCSU has a separate code of conduct that they expect their students to abide by. this is why students can be punished by the university and not be punished by the legal system.

i was called into student conduct a few times while at NCSU - i definitely think that what they did was worse than what i did - the only punishment i received was a warning and then i had to write a 1-2 page paper

i'm not defending the kids or NCSU - i'm saying i believe NCSU made the decision that they did because they didn't want to be sued and it was a decision out of fear more than anything else - it was probably viewed as economically more beneficial to not pursue due to the threat of a lawsuit

well, a quick glance at the NCSU code of conduct would tell you that they violated at least two standards....

I just bring this up to show that a lot this is up to the universities discretion. I don't know for sure...but it appears as if they're sweeping this under the rug.

I'm not defending what they did. It's despicable and disgusting and I'm ashamed to be associated with them in any way.

I am defending free speech, though, and I think they should be punished to the full extent of the law. I don't think they deserve to be expelled, but they should be watched closely, if that's possible.

What they wrote was sad and hateful. I don't think they were a serious threat to bring harm to Obama or anyone else, though. They were just pussies with spray cans.

I'm saying that I refuse to donate more money to a university with a reputation for repeated "isolated racial incidents". I know it's not the university itself....duh. But if the kids that did this aren't punished (enough that ot hurts imo), then I see the university as a place that's allowing that culture to grow. I won't be a part of that.



Long story short, if a university wants alumni money, they need to keep alumni happy.

p.s., when isolated incidents happen over and over again, they begin to not be so isolated, ya know?
