i personally believe (I personally beleeeeeeeeeeeeeeive) that this is the best rivalry in college football because the games are good and those two fan bases really fuckin hate eachother
its just hate, i love it and both the horseshoe and bighouse atmosphere are already near unparalleled as it is
puttin all that together is beautiful
that and the contrast in colors, i hade rivalries where the color are kinda the same 11/16/2008 3:04:36 PM |

it's sad to say this, but i hope OSU wins. i'm a fan of the kick them while they're down strategy, and michigan has never had a worse season as far as losses are concerned. 11/16/2008 3:09:20 PM |

^ He sorta has a point.
It's certainly still the most storied and heated.
But best? This year? No way. The Game has no NC implications, and probably not even conference champ implications so long as Penn State can maintain. With all the other great rivalries this year in which both teams are in the spotlight, this one probably won't mean much to anyone but Michgan / osu people this year. 11/16/2008 5:50:31 PM |

Okay then...a bandwagoner is someone who attaches themselves to a new fad or trend because it's the popular thing to do.
The guy who started this thread was born in Detroit and pulled for Michigan (along with the ~dozen or so relatives who did attend) since birth.
Furthermore, despite Michigan sucking royally this year, the guy who started the thread is clearly still fanatical as ever about Michigan - which is fully contradictory to one of the main attributes of a bandwagoner.
So, I'll give you one final chance to redeem your dignity - make the connection.

Well, I give you credit for replying. A+ for effort. You clearly don't understand what the term "bandwagoner" means, nor does your sense of logic seem very advanced. I'm sorry your education has failed you so badly.
On a side note: suppose a person pulls for the Red Sox. Under your bizarre standards, are they only allowed to do that if they live in Boston, or have lived in Boston at some point?

Rules regarding fandom of professional teams are different than those for college teams. It silly to try to make that argument while knocking my "sense of logic".

Call it whatever you want. You did not attend the University of Michigan, yet you are a fan of Wolverines athletics. I don't care if your great-great-grandfather founded the university, you are not a part of it. You have absolutely no grounds on which to gloat about "your team's" success or to opine over their shortcomings.
Also, I love that you called "my" standards "bizarre." Here they are:
1. You can legitimately pull for a school if you attended that school.
That's it! How bizarre!
If I were an OSU fan I'd laugh at people like you.

^^ Who, lifelong fans who did not attend the school? Yes, certainly - that is indeed the appropriate label, and in no way synonymous with "bandwagoner." No one has been able to counter that as of yet other than to say "nuh uhhh!!!!"
...fuck it. More importantly, Wolfpack won this weekend, so let's just get along and you stay out of our thread since you have no stake in the subject matter that it covers.

According to Ernie
If I grew up as the biggest NC State fan in the world
but I was also smart as fuck and got a full academic scholarship to Duke
I would have to turn that down and attend State in order to not be a bandwagon fan
Yeah, that makes all the sense in the world 11/16/2008 6:18:31 PM |
Ernie All American 45943 Posts user info edit post |
According to Slave Famous, there's nothing wrong with Carolina fans attending State and still pulling for Carolina.
You rescind all previous allegiances when you attend a university. There are exceptions for non-DI schools.
That's the rule.

State is an average academic school at best
If I was a fan of State before college (which I wasn't) and got into a better college that I could afford (which I didn't), according to you, I wouldn't be "allowed" to respectfully pull for State anymore, no exceptions

The alumni of college teams makes up only a small fraction of their fanbase
If people only pulled for the school they went to, major college sports would be a niche offering, relegated to ESPNU and Versus
The 'bandwagoners' are what make college football and basketball the financial and commercial successes they are 11/16/2008 6:38:20 PM |
