listening to The Fan tonight and they were talking about compliling a 22-man roster for each team to play in fictional game

the catch is, the players must play exactly how they are as of this weekend. so you wouldn't want a banged-up Jeff Saturday for UNC (unless an injured Saturday is still the best center you could find for UNC)

it can include current college players, current NFL players, retired NFL players who are still in football playing shape...hell it could include grocery baggers who used to play running back

So, it's just who has the most players in the NFL, right?

it's the O-Line that gets difficult

It wouldn't even be fair, we'd have Philip, J Co, Torry and Koren. We wouldn't even need an OLine.

Adrian Wilson and Dajuan at Safety. Nate Irving, Steven Tulloch, and maybe Pat Thomas at LB. Mario, Manny, Tank, and AMC at DLine. CBs are kinda tough, can't think of the best tandem off the top of my head.

Adrian Wilson is a must. I know we had a couple of CBs starting in the league a couple years ago, one for the Vikings for sure.

QB - Philip Rivers
RB - Andre Brown
*RB/WR - Tramain Hall
WR - Torry Holt
WR - Koren Robinson
TE - Marcus Stone
LT - Jake Vermiglio
LG - Scott Kooistra
C - LeRoy Harris
RT - Chris Colmer (if he can... I know he had a career ending injury/syndrome)
RG - Kalani Heppe

*-return man

DE - Mario Williams
DE - Manny Lawson
DT - Tank Tyler
DT - Alan Michael-Cash
LB - Pat Thomas
LB - Stephen Tulloch
LB - Nate Irving
CB - Brian Williams
CB - Dovonte Edwards
FS - Adrian Wilson
SS - DaJuan Morgan

Hauschka and Deraney kicking.

Not sure if all those guys are in good shape, but that team would be pretty bad ass.

Well, he failed his physical for the trade to Indy. I figured he wouldn't be healthy enough to go.

^^I'd take Cotchery over Koren right now.

Offense:
QB - P-Riv
RB - A. Brown
FB - O. Hoyte
WR - T. Holt
WR - J-Co / K-Rob
TE - Sean Berton (assuming he's still in decent shape)
TE - Marcus Stone
OT - Sean Locklear
OG - Scott Kooistra
C - Leroy Harris
OG - ?
OT - Derrick Morris ? Haha.
K - Haushka

Defense:
DE - Mario Williams
DT - Tank Tyler
DT - DeMario Pressley (if John McCargo doesn't count)
DE - Manny Lawson/Corey Smith
LB - Pat Thomas
MLB - Stephen Tulloch
LB - Nate Irving
CB - Brian Williams (thought technically a S now)
CB - Devonte Edwards / Marcus Hudson
S - Adrian Wilson
S - DaJuan Morgan / Terrence Holt

PR/KR - Brian Clark / D-Blackman(if he's still in good shape)

The problem with our team is that Amato didn't put out many great OL. But then again he put out a ton of great defensive players and got lucky with P-Riv. So I'd put that D up against any O that UNC could come up with.

UNC might put more players in the NFL than us, but we put higher quality. But I think we'd have a time with Peppers with that OL, haha.

hoyte could go both ways

also, i'd take our current TE's over berton and stone, stone is athletic but cant catch, berton could be situational for the running game. what kind of shape is Jax keeping Willi Wright?

also, what makes this hard is knowing players still in playing shape or playing somewhere other than the nfl

[Edited on November 18, 2008 at 9:21 PM. Reason : ^also, jed paulsen could prob play C and let harris move over to G (assuming paulsen is healthy)]

i counted 11 "offensive" players....but that's including the long snappers and some receivers I've never heard of

that's far from the type of team they'd need to keep up in a shoot-out

I never stop laughing that the best RB to come out of UNC in the last decade didn't play while he was there.

Willie Parker would never play for UNC again. He would most likely suit up in red just to spite those fairies.

He'd definitely be the best RB in the game. The game wouldn't be particularly close though imo just because NCSU has a lot more quality starters on both sides of the ball.

Yeah I forgot just how little success either State or UNC had at RB over the past few years. Willie Parker was the surprise since he stunk it up in college.

And I think I'd let RW be the back-up to P-Riv.

I think this would be bad game to be a QB. Neither team could field much of an OL but the DL for both teams would be really good. Dre Bly is a bit overrated and no one else on that D is really intimidating.

Overall skill position players we'd have the edge, DL would be a draw, and we'd have the secondary advantage. And even with Willie Parker, that OL they have wouldn't be able to do too much against our DL and they're weak at QB and WR. We'd just stack the box and stop Willie Parker.

If you factor in Hakeem Nicks and Brandon Tate, I am not so sure that they are weak at WR

DL-Mario, McCargo, Tank, S. Price (with decent depth)
LB- Tulluch, Thomas/ Fisher, Manny
DB: Hudson, Morgan, Wilson, Holt/Williams/Hud
QB: Rivers
RB: Brown, Hoyte at FB if needed
OL- Locklear, Rigs, Kooistra, Harris, Vermiglio
WR: Holt, Cotchery, K Rob (stacked)
TE: W. Wright or TJ WIlliams

DL- Peppers, Simms, Holliday , Ellis (stacked with great depth BTW)
LB: Thornton, Simmons, K. Mays
DB: Bly, Sensabaugh, Waddell, They had a guy that played beside Bly in college who was good
QB: Durant
RB: Parker (if you could get him to agree) Hedgcock at FB
OL: Saturday, Brown, Chacos, ?, ?
WR: Aiken, Curry, Nicks/ Tate
TE: Crumpler

The problem is that both DL's would eat up both OL's all day

I think the teams are pretty obvious until you get to the O-line, but who would you like to having coaching these guys.

I think UNC would be a pretty obvious Mack Brown led team, but then again Butch Davis does has some (mediocre) NFL head coaching on his resume.

For the Pack I think scowl of Bill Cowher on the sideline would be great, not to mention being able to watch him rain spit on any official he choses. Call up Lou Holtz for a little pre-game pep talk, have it at Carter-Finley so we can have a real tailgate, and even invite ol' Chuck Amato so he can get us all out of jail after the victory party. I hear he's getting good at that again down at Felony State.

UNC does have some solid/good defensive players in the NFL. Honestly at QB, UNC's best option in my opinion would be Durant. He was a David Garrard type. Wonder what happened to that dude. He was definitely better than Ronald Curry.
