Comes out 12/12/2008.

The trailers look promising. The International trailer actually has Gort in it. Please embed:

I looking forward to seeing Keanu Reeves actually have a chance to show off his under appreciated acting skills rather than just karate kicking people all day

Why...just...WHY?
This is one of those movies that doesn't need to be remade. Modern special effects will not get the story across any better. They're gonna screw it up. And HOLY CRAP, Keanu Reaves? I was pissed off before I found that one out, but I wanted to drive to Hollywood and start skullfucking people with a strap-on when I saw that casting job.

^Why? Because when they run out of comic movies, sequels, and popular book adaptations the only things that are left are classic movies.

in their defense, it's not a remake but a "re-imagining". sort of how BSG got re-imagined, i guess.

I'll be honest, as a kid I always fell asleep or became disinterested in this movie whenever it came on TV. I guess the movie doesn't work on a kid level, at least for me it didn't. So I just read the plot to the old one...

So basically the movie tries to make social commentary on people's violent nature and warns of the dangers of the Cold War mentality by introducing a larger threat than the soviets and a much larger threat of violence. Stop killing each other because that's wrong. If you don't we'll label you as too great a threat and we'll kill all of you. That'll show 'em.

Did the original try to portray the visitors as benevolent and on some higher moral sphere that us, or did it try to further expose the fears associated with the Cold War by introducing a far greater threat? No moral high ground whatsoever. We're being looked down on for what essentially amounts to small scale violence compared to what they are threatening. The plot almost reads as if the Bush administration is in charge of the galactic council and Earth was selected for a preemptive strike.

The trailer for this one made the film look like 'Rise of the Silver Surfer'.

They should do a remake for I Come in Peace where the guy shoots iPods at people.

this looks like a movie which will be exciting until the "exciting" part starts
i dont think it will be fun to see stuff just turning into smoke for 2 hours, thats not a fair fight, and i bet they win by like thinking or believing or some bs like that

From what I've seen, it's almost sort of Sentinel-like. I don't see why, if you're gonna update the movie, you'd need to try to hold so true to the original, but kudos to them for respecting the classics, I guess.

pretty good for a remake.

They did good updating the story but of course it gets a little preachy. Surprised Al Gore didn't make a cameo.

what about the wolverine trailer (trying to get a mod to bttt the thread, but they don't seem to be around too much), is it different from the bootleg one from comicon? its really the only thing about this movie that interested me.

Just got back from the Midnight showing. Decent action scenes but the plot goes downhill after 45 minutes. Overall I would give it a 4.5 out of 10

I thought it sucked. I was really disappointed how some of the main characters from the original were rewritten. I won't go into details since I don't want to spoil it for anyone that's still planning on seeing it, but in my opinion, not worth catching in theaters.

*** Warning Plot Details below ***

I was actually enjoying the movie until the main reason for the alien invasion was revealed. Apparently aliens are left wing "tree hugging" liberals with an agenda and they will use deadly force to protect earth. I am sick and tired of watching movies only to find out that the are just delivery vehicles for liberal tree hugging propaganda.

Yes, I agree that we need to make a reasonable attempt to reduce the damage done to the earth by us being on it. But today's propaganda is way over the top and unnecessary.

How did you not realize that from the ads and previews?

It's hard enough to make a movie with a message not seem preachy. I'm not sure they even tried with this one.

So you want an alien movie where the aliens come to earth and limit welfare, hold the government hostage until they agree to make it smaller and lower taxes, and make abortion illegal?

Also, it was written quite a long time ago..

^^^ No, I don't want to watch any movie that is designed push any propaganda.

I paid money to see an entertaining movie, not get lectured on what horrible species the human race is.

I did watch the original. It's message was actually more useful and necessary. The world was very close to coming to an end if we had of entered a Nuclear War.

We are no where near that level of destruction regardless of how much the media and politicians would like you to think. The earth is fine, it is much more resilient and unaffected by us than we like to think. It will continue to survive and be fertile for many millions of years with or without the human race.
