Im done moding cars. Im not very concerned with mpg. I want a nice sports sedan but, would consider a coupe. I really want a nice sports car with a luxury interior. RWD and a manual is also a huge plus. Im leaning towards the m5 because there are some great deals out there. I saw a 01 m5 with 40k miles sell for $19k.

i would say M3

but if the rest of those cars are even contenders in your mind, you have no use for the M3. save your money and get the 330i or G35.

I would pick the M5, just because I drive long distances on the highway. I very rarely go anywhere that is unnecessary. If I do take a trip, I combine all of my stops into one trip. The M5 was really meant to be a highway cruising car (grand tourer).

Sounds like to me that you need to be looking for a 540i. If you are looking to spend under 20gs you might can find an M5 for less than that but the repairs/maintenance is going to eat you alive. Not to mention the 540 is going to give you performance equal to or better than the 330 and g35.

I'd pick the M5, hands down. Having driven that model M5 a number of times and having been in one on the track drifting HARD (I mean full opposite lock through every corner with Donnie Isley at the wheel) with 5 people in the car, I can say for certain that I'd take it. The performance is incredible and when you combine that with the looks and practicality of the E39 M5, you've got a hands down winner. I've also driven all of the other cars and I don't feel that any of them can fully compare to the M5. However, none of them will be a disappointment IMO and I'd be perfectly happy with any of them.

The 330i is probably the least focused of this group of cars but it's still quick and it's a great daily driver. It's probably more expensive than the G35 but less expensive than the M's to maintain. It has a pretty good amount of room, but I'd try to get a 4 door if possible.

I like the original G35 Sport Coupe a lot too. It will probably be the cheapest to maintain IMO. The steering is particularly communicative in these cars from what I recall. It handles well and has pretty good power. It's the least practical of your choices in terms of room and passenger carrying ability though.

The M5 will be the most expensive to maintain. But the M5 will significantly outperform all of these cars except the M3 (Which it should still equal in terms of performance) and it'll do it while being significantly more badass and with significantly more room y0! Everytime I've driven one I've been amazed at how tossable the car is. I still think the E39 M5 offers one of the best all around driving experiences out there for the money.

Btw, this was post 16,000 son.

I really don't like the image the M3 projects... seems like the 330 or G35 are the most practical here; cheaper to maintain and still decent performers.

Buy the G35

Hell I will sell you mine for 20k. 2005 sedan, grey, blk leather, Its got 80k miles. Fully loaded. good luck finding one with the sport package (18" wheels, springs, shocks, limited slip)

I would chose the G35, maintenance on a BMW will eat u alive!!!! not only is the G35 cheaper to repair, its more reliable.

even though they are simliar cars by name, this is actually a very wide range of what you're looking at...

im going to side with the guy who said to get the 330i. if you are entertaining that, it is probably going to be the cheapest and still meet the performance levels you are looking at (which are once again a wide range)

I love the E39 M5, great car

But the E46 M3 is fucking awesome

Of course I am biased but the M3 all the way, however unless you plan on doing your maintenance yourself, it will get down right expensive on any BMW.

thanks for input! I havent driven a E39 M5 yet but, I think after I do it will make my decision very easy. Im not too concerned with maintenance cost because i do most of it myself and I really think the m5 will hold its value better than any of the others. AND I know they cost 75k new and sell for 20k now.... no need to point that out!

Get the M5, but be careful with maintainance prices inline with a $75k car.

Also, if that engine ever goes pop, instead of spending $30k for a new one just throw in an LS3

if you pick M5, look for '02-03. '99-01 were notorious for unreasonable oil consumption, not to mention better headlights on '01 and up.

^^if recall was performed there is nothing wrong with '01 M3. I have one with 100k on original engine and it works great. there are production dates which were affected and most of them fall under '02 model.

The 05-06 G35s with the 6spd have oild consumption problems too. The 6spd got a special engine call Rev-up 298hp, which basically has a cam and intake manifold upgrade from the regular 280hp standard engine.

I've got a 07 G35S sedan...you can pick them up off eBay for around $23k.

For example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/07-INFINITI-G35S-NAVI-WARRANTY-6-SPEED-STUNNING_W0QQitemZ140282260308QQihZ004QQcategoryZ43914QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Navigation, 27k miles, 6 speed and 306 horsepower. The warranty is good till 50k miles if I remember.

That 306hp is rated with the new SAE ratings, btw. 0-60 in 5.2 if you're into that kinda thing. It's also supposed to have 3 more hp at 60mph according to Infininit. I've really like mine so far, no issues. I also think the sedan is better looking than the coupe for this generation. It handles great and makes my commute fun. Expect to buy new tires every 20k miles (or any of the cars above).

Sounds like the G35 is out....if money is not an option, the M5 is a good choice, however i again say that you can save a good amount going with a 540i.

Get the M5. When one of those dumbfucks gets in the left turn lane on Avent Ferry then makes a lane change while turning and hits you, they will remember not to do that again after they see the repair bill on your car. I can't stand people that try to make mid-turn lane changes. People need to get in the turn lane that puts them in the lane they want to be in at the next stoplight. If you own a silver Mercedes E350 and your wife smokes cigarettes, I hope the next person that you do that to hits you, pulls a gun on you and blows both you and your wife's head off.

I find it hilarious and totally predictable that 2/3 of the tards in here are suggesting an M5.

20k for a nearly 9 year old car that is going to be insanely expensive to maintain? It's one thing to buy an older luxury coupe for historical reasons, or for heritage, or some other reasonable criteria.

If it's really luxury + performance you want, why in the lord would you be looking at 9 year old vehicles? Old luxury cars don't feel luxurious, they feel old. And yeah the M5 was a beast when it was a couple of years old. 9 years? I'd bet you've lost 15-20% of the HP from the original specs.

Everything about your post points in the direction of buying something newer, but more common.

I agree with ^

I think youre wanting an M5 just to say hey I own an M5. I liken it to all the black people buying 10 year old lexus' and renting the fucking wheels on them just so they can pimp some weak ass game about how they drive a lexus.

The pragmatic choice here is a 2/3 year old G35, hands down, WHICH STILL HAS A WARRANTY.

Im willing to bet you can find a used 330 with the twin turbo charged engines for mid 20k next year. I also am willing to bet it would be faster than most of the cars mentioned in here.
