Judging from your post I supposed it would be pointless to ask you how they detect and block torrent activity. The solution to your problem could be something simple like using different ports or involve something more complex like using encryption to mask the types of packets being sent across the network.

ip address blocker

if you use windows, a good one is peerguardian2
block all options, block http when youre using the torrent, allow it when youre just surfing

yeah, I'm not well versed in matters like this, but I THINK they told me they can tell what port my computer is using when I use a torrent program, if that makes sense. Or that there's a specific port that usually only torrent programs access or something, I dunno.
