so i have skype and right now i use a shitty mic that i use for gaming

looking to get rid of that mic and fix my VoIP situation up a little better

options:
1) get an awesome mic - one of the shotgun mics for camcorders with batteries or something.
2) get the usb VoIP phone adapter ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833127070 ) and get a phone - what kind should i get?
3) get a skype phone with wifi or something like that

i think these options are even prioritized - what's your setup for VoIP and what do you think i should do?

unless you have just a horrible mic - the codec is probably going to be your limiting factor

g711ulaw / g729a/b / iLBC are all low-bit-rate-codecs

try making a recording on your computer using your mic - see if you sound ok there

im not sure, i dont do cisco voice

but whatever you are sending your provider, its going to be transcoded to g711u 95% of the time at the media gateway for termination

Ah, oh well.

I can understand most all networking niches with the exception of storage networking and security. Im only slightly more proficient in voice but its rather foreign to me.
