My friend and I were having a discussion about all the potential big sponsors here and were wondering if there was any solid reason why we don't have a pretty big time bowl here. We have excellent facilities plenty of room for a traveling team to bring fans... it makes no sense to me. The "Tobacco Bowl" as we dubbed it would kick ass.

Not very neutral...esp if we got the bid. Although I've never understood how there is a bowl in Boise that they always go to. Plus Tire bowl is prolly too close.

^^^^ forgot about that, but I was still comparing what we have facility wise and sponsor potential to what other bowl's have. Might be the beer talking but just seems to me that we have much more to offer than some of the other bowls already out there

I always thought it would be cool to have a trophy of some sort to go back and forth between State and ECU or State and UNC.

I mean some schools battle for stuff like axes, a jug, a boot, etc...

My suggestion would be to have something between State and ECU since Dook and Unc have their little "Carlyle Cup" already....

Make it the annual "Tobacco bowl" and have us play for a Golden Tobacco leaf trophy. That would make more sense with the local student bodies of State and ECU since we are the only two real public universities.

Maybe a giant cock with 50 different rungs on it

and whoever wins between us and ecu gets to put a red or purple hand on that rung

we are a more appealing bowl site than chapel hill or clemson, that's for sure.

probably not good enough to start a new one though.

Aren't bowls either in locations with typically good weather (the south, west, etc) or in domes (Detroit, etc)?

Raleigh doesn't have bad weather in December/January, but who would want to come play in a potential freezing drizzle bowl here?

have you seen the list of bowl games? who wants to go play in boise? or DC? or charlotte for that matter?

did you really just compare dc and charlotte to raleigh?

bowls are generally a packaged vacation, for folks other than 18-22 yo college students

the host city expects your fans to come in and rack up tourism dollars

meh, even with your point

for a significant portion of the country (note i'm ignoring boise in this discussion), the weather is far shittier than it is in DC/Charlotte

for a specific example, last year when uconn made the car care bowl, it was snowy as all hell in connecticut, so coming back down here for the game was like a trip back to the fall for us

i went from pants and jackets to shorts and a vest

i also went from excited as hell in the first half to dejected and sad in teh second half

its a consistent theme in uconn losses

so what you're saying is, as far as weather is concerned, raleigh isn't any worse than a lot of the bowls out there?

alright, thanks for rewording my post.

NCSU and ECU already do have a trophy they trade.

The thing is it just started last year and since we won both times we kept it so it hasn't technically been "traded."

It's a pork barrel kept in the Student Government office with a small plaque for every game the 2 teams have ever played against each other with the dates and scores. State wins have red plaques and ECU wins have purple.

I like that we have something but I think a barrel is dumb.

A pork barrel. I guess since ECU vs. NCSU match-ups are pretty much forced by state legislature it kinda makes sense.

Generally, aren't bowl games played at a stadium that is not the home stadium of a particular college team?

i agree that NC State should push a bowl game here to raise money for our team/facilities

tobacco bowl is a great name but probably unrealistic for raleigh. probably play it off the "City of Oaks" think and call it the oak bowl, acorn bowl, etc.

Forget all that mess...whatever happened to bands like Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, and the Grateful Dead playing Carter Finley. I would much rather be there than in the ghetto ass Walnut Creek side of Raleigh. I realize that none of these bands really exist anymore, but I have to use them as examples because it's been so long.

At least if my car breaks down at CF, I don't have to fear for my life. Just sayin.

Like the Rose Bowl?

If you want the details, check here:

Maybe a 50/50 split.

not really a bad thing. Although it is pretty awesome to watch someone like Queen play to a packed Wembley Stadium (1986 show), I really hate that kind of environment to see a band so I am very glad that the best bands around today are not playing those kinds of shows.
