So I just bought the new macbook and I'm trying to connect it to my Sharp Aquos tv...I didn't have any problems with my old computer (IBM) and so when I connected via Mini DVI -> VGA it first said "not compatible with the tv" so I went into my display settings and changed the resolution to the highest one (1600 x 1200). This did fix my issue and I got my computer screen on my tv! However it's not the full size of my tv screen (I have 42") how do I fix this so it's full screen and I don't have all this black around it?

Did you get the base model white macbook, or the new aluminum one?

Also, you have to press the zoom button on your Sharp.

I doubt the native res is 1600x1200 so it won't fit without stretching/scaling out.

Try setting the video output to the native res. You should have gotten the mini-DVI-DVI adapter and used a DVI-HDMI adapter to connect the TV. See if you can choose like 1280x720 as the output from the macbook.

Okay I guess whatever I first did didn't work and now my screen is way too big for my computer so everything won't fit on just my computer screen. How do I fix this?

i have an old powerbook and it gives me two display options when i hook my computer (DVI) to my LCD (52" Samsung)

1) Mirror the two displays, showing the same picture on both displays. It lowers my resolution to something pretty low (1024 x 768 maybe?), and the quality on both looks like crap. I can't raise the resolution at all.

2) Extended monitor. Runs the two displays as if you had two monitors next to each other. They both run at their native resolution, and you have to drag windows from your powerbook display over to your TV. The entire screen is filled, with no black bars.

I prefer extended monitor mode.

I don't think extended mode is what I need since my computer will be closed most of the time. I did some more messing around and connected my computer one last time and used the stretch feature on my tv and it worked!!!! woo hoo

well I just think it's easier to check all my stuff on my tv...I really don't watch tv and on the computer at the same time plus I like watching movies and my dvd player stopped working so I use my computer and whenever I have people over we use it to listen to music.

not sure about the mini-dvi to VGA...I have a 42" aquos and I bought a mini-dvi to hdmi and mine works fine with no resolution modification...the only problem I had was getting the macbook mini-dvi connecting tight enough for the TV to connect..

hmm. connects and I can see my screen on the tv...sort of. Applications running (firefox, tweetdeck, etc) only show up on my laptop, while my background and sidebar show up on the tv. Will have to play around more to get it working.
