plot (from wikipedia):
During World War II, German Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg (Cruise) is severely wounded in Africa and returns home to Nazi Germany. Stauffenberg helps conceive Operation Valkyrie, a plan approved by Adolf Hitler which, in order to manage turmoil within Germany, would implement a shadow government in the event of the Nazi Führer's death.

The Colonel eventually joins the German Resistance and becomes part of the July 20 plot, a conspiracy to assassinate Hitler and execute Valkyrie in order to take control of the country and make peace with the Allies. Stauffenberg finds himself taking on not only the responsibility of leading the coup, but also the task to assassinate Hitler himself.

As much as I dislike Cruise, this movie looks fairly decent, and it's an interesting story.

so why would a german accent (especially a shitty one) make it any more realistic

btw, this rule does not apply to sgt. schultz or col. klink because they're played for comic value

I thought this movie was pretty awesome.
Unfortunately I sat next to the biggest, ignorant, hick of a woman ever and had to put up with the dumbest shit she was saying the whole time. It took everything in me to not to ask her to quiet down because I knew she was so dumb that even a polite request would have made things worse.

Thank you North Hills for not patrolling the theater and keeping these people in check!

As far as the language/accent thing goes, it is a little weird. It didn't take away from the movie though. In the intro Tom Cruise start out writing and doing a voice over in German that transitions into English. That was actually kind of cool except his Deutsch was kinda awful.

There are a number of films that do this. Unfortunately, I can't think of a single one at the moment.

I don't see why there is all the hate for Tom Cruise. He may be batshit insane, but that's his personal life so if he wants to be a Scientologist, just as long as it isn't hurting anyone I don't see the big deal. He was great in Tropic Thunder.

However, that has little to no bearing on whether or not I see his movies. He's a good actor, and this looks like a quality movie, I'll definitely be seeing it.

the descendants of claus do not particularly like cruise as the selection, as he was a devout roman catholic and cruise is a fucking scientologist

the man's religion had a decent amount to do with his motivations for doing what he did. i will only be impressed if they get part of that through in the movie at all...

Saw it today with the family. I thought it was really good. Even though I already knew the outcome of the movie (Obviously Hitler doesn't get killed...) it still managed to maintain a good amount of suspense. I'd recommend it.

If the previews had said that instead of having a massive hardon for Tom Cruise I might have wanted to see it.

The previews have a done nothing but make this film out to be a 2 hour hard on for Tom Cruise. It's like they are targeting women my Mom's age or something. That's why I have not seen it yet. However, if y'all think its alright then I will go check it out.
