I usually pan fry with a lemon butter sauce (with some fresh parsley). cover filets with flour and lightly salted. then pan fry each side, let sit, cook the lemon-butter-parsley sauce for about a minute in the same pan, while the filets sit aside on a platter, covered with foil.. then drizzle the sauce

this is a great fish to cook, low in cal.'s ... does anyone have any recipes theyd like to share?

...butter and sliced onions in a casserole dish, layer with fillets, top with fresh cilantro. Seal with foil. Bake.
(Optional: replace onions with garlic or carrots; replace cilantro with basil or thyme; replace butter with olive oil)

^I remember seeing something similar on wral about farm raised tilapia:

Quote :
"The researchers say tilapia is not a good choice for those fighting heart disease. They even say hamburger and bacon would be a better choice. "

Although I don't really know what that is based on or where the source of that came from.

[Edited on December 14, 2008 at 8:09 PM. Reason : Could the tilapia you ate for dinner kill you? Find out tonight @ 11.]

Agreed about steps 1-3. Call me a seafood snob, but being raised on an island...farm-raised fish, of which tilapia is one, is unduly bland. Fresh fish is better...support NC commercial fisherman...their jobs are being out-sourced to Asia and the fish that's coming back? Your tilapia.

Besides, there are way better fish to eat, even if it has to be farm-raised...

Furikake is a seasoning you can get at grand asia in many flavors. I usually use the black sesame seed and nori one, got some salt and other stuff in it too. cook it in a pan with a little teriyaki, super easy to make.

farm raised typically has less pollution in it, but it's not going to taste as good.

i only use imported flour from southern indonesia with my tilapia, lightly sifted through only the finest hand-formed copper shaker available

along with my meticulously groomed fresh parsley, lovingly diced on the diagonal

i use this recipe for parmesan tilapia all the time, and it's really easy

1.) preheat broiler
2.) mix 1/2c parmesan cheese (i prefer grated), 1/4c soft butter, 3tbsp mayo, 2tbsp lemon juice, and herbs (basil, pepper, celery salt, onion powder) together and set aside
3.) broil fillets just below heat for 2-3 minutes, flip, broil for another 2-3 minutes, take out and cover with mixture, broil for another 1-2 minutes until topping is browned and fish is flaky

takes all of 10 minutes to do and it's sooooooooo good

this sauce is a good pairing with pan fried or deep fried fish

Tamarind sauce
1 tablespoon tamarind
2 1/2 tablespoons sugar
1 shallot (chopped)
2 cloves garlic (chopped)
2 tablespoons fish sauce
2-4 chili peppers (chopped)
3 sprigs cilantro

farm raised tilapia has almost no Omega-3 content and has more arachidonic acid than bacon. If I'm going to eat garbage protein sources, I'd rather just stick with bacon.

i'm not 100% sure, but i don't think this is true. the tilapia farmers i know only raise tilapia. it's like a warehouse full of above-ground swimming pools filled with tilapia. they have these automatic feeders that drop in stuff that looks like dry dog food.

[Edited on December 16, 2008 at 11:43 AM. Reason : i think tilapia eat algae in the wild. they're native to africa.]
