damn son, i've got some red wings and i thought they were expensive.
12/16/2008 10:24:18 PM
my Red Wings were almost that much when I bought them a few years ago.
12/16/2008 10:25:08 PM
watRedwings shouldn't cost half of these Nick's.The boots are 7 lbs together. They're heavy as hell, especially when you're hiking up a mountain lugging your gear and digging line. They have no cushion; the midsoles are stacked leather. Buuuut, when you accidentally step into a burning stump hole and pull your foot out without any damage they suddenly don't feel so cumbersome.

12/16/2008 10:35:04 PM
My job sucks 92% of the time Writing forest management plans isn't much fun and that's mostly what I do.About the pecans...I'm not sure what's up with them.My first thought was the trees were probably alternate bearing (producing higher yields every other years). But, she said the yields were similar two and three years ago.By the looks of the aerial photos, it doesnt look like there is any competition either.I think she also said she didn't do anything to the yard (fertilizer, herbicide, etc), so those are ruled out.I'm not really sure what's up with them if they don't show any health issues.^How much do I make?http://www.charlotteobserver.com/data/story/418239.html[Edited on December 16, 2008 at 10:41 PM. Often you'll see signs of insects or diseases and still have enough time to do something about it...then again sometimes they just drop dead. You know, it could be due to the drought we had the first part of this year. We've had a drought longer, but soil moistures were really at their lowest this year.^^Aww the frills (called kilties) are what makes them special [Edited on December 16, 2008 at 10:50 PM. Under state contract the state will pay Nick's Boots $295 a pair. That's $60 under retail. It's really a reasonable price because it's heads and shoulders above other brands (such as Red Wing) in quality and can be resoled for $75 or completely rebuilt for $200. On average for the guys doing the most fire work they last 3 years. Any other boot would last half that long.Mine were $500 cause I added $200 for custom fitting the foot, custom fitting the leg, a thicker sole, a taller upper, and a few other features. It's expensive but I have screwed up feet. I don't mine paying.

^linemen's boots don't have cardboard linings. they have kevlar shanks running through their lengths to keep them from flexing when you're climbing. I don't think you could qualify a boot as a linemens boot if it was made that flimsy.
