DWI, apparently. In critical condition. Keep him in your thoughts, regardless of your feelings on DWIs. 12/17/2008 8:49:44 AM |

Keeter is doing pretty good right now. he had his back surgery today and it was pretty successful.
before the surgery the current prognosis is 5% chance of walking again but no update on that.
i have the link to his recovery blog that was set up by his sister and parents. (people can pm if they want the link b/c i am not going to post it publicly)
apparently he will be staying in charlotte for the first month of his rehab. 12/17/2008 3:59:52 PM |

Shit.
Thanks for the update.
It's his 2nd DWI... some people just learn the hard way i guess
Hopefully the surgery was successful and he makes a full recovery.

that's understating it a bit. He was a fan favorite because he was a bench warmer. He would come into the game after 5 minutes of the crowd chanting his name and everyone would cheer when he touched the ball. The crowd would urge him to shoot it, and sometimes he'd throw a shot down from several feet behind the 3pt line. I think his adrenaline would just go through the roof when everyone cheered because he did make some crazy shots (he seemed to always make every 3). He eventually got his own noise meter ("Keeter Meeter") that the jumbotron would display when the crowd would chant his name.12/17/2008 6:08:07 PM |

from the blog:
Quote : | " we learned from his nurse that he had a bit of a rough night. His heart rate was higher than they wanted & his fever was back up, which the nurse said is pretty normal for someone following surgery. However, when we left this morning, it appeared he was returning back to a more stable state.
They can't do much diagnostic testing on the spinal cord injury until he obviously is strong enough & more stable from the surgery.
He is being weaned off the respirator. Again, just slow & steady progress. A trend that undoubtedly will be the case for much time to come." |

Brian's family has set up a fund through the NTAF. I've been in contact with Brian's father over the last few months and things are progressing, but not without setbacks.
Here's the link to his NTAF page:

Also, State Fans Nation ran a post about this today:

^^Dude, it's hard to have sympathy for someone who injured/killed themselves doing something really stupid that is directly putting the lives of others in danger. It unfortunate, but it's not like he was victim to some freak accident or disease.

Learning the hard way would be getting a DWI and finally realizing you should never be driving drunk. Getting a second DWI just means you're a fucking moron.
I certainly wish him the best though. We all make some pretty terrible mistakes in life.
