Everyone, what would you do if you were in Vegas for 72 hours? Looking for tips and recommendations!

I'm taking my family there next week...staying at MGM.

breakfast buffet at MGM was really really nice... (we had a discount for staying at the Signature, you may get it too)

if youre a nerd or have a family of nerds, theres the atomic testing museum...

We saw Love. I liked it a lot and I dont even like the Beatles that much.

Stuff that kind of sucked:
The mummy museum thing in the Luxor

Statement as of 2:05 PM PST on December 17, 2008

... Extremely rare snow event across the Desert Southwest...

An unusual combination of subtropical moisture and cold...
northerly... low level air has produced a rare snowstorm across the
lower elevations of the Mohave desert... including the Las Vegas
Valley. This snowstorm will produce significant impacts to the Las
Vegas Valley as 3 to 6 inches of snow are likely at most locations
including the Las Vegas strip.
Higher amounts are possible...
particularly across the western portions of the valley where total
accumulations of up to 10 inches are forecast. "

Check out the live lions in the MGM. If you're lucky you might see them not sleeping.

exactly. i assume this is your first time out there - take the opportunity and just be a tourist for 3 days. you don't have to go on a 72 hour cocaine and liquor-fueled gambling rampage just to have fun. i had more fun sightseeing my first couple trips to las vegas than at the tables. you can spend hours checking out each hotel and taking photos. hell you could spend a whole day in some of them just walking around. go to the bellagio, go to the venetian/pallazzo, check out ceasar's palace. ceasar's shops and the venetian as especially cool b/c they're indoors but the high ceiling and decor makes you forget you're inside. you feel like you're walking down the street. fremont st. is a pretty cool place to spend an afternoon too.

that's not true at all. if it's your style, go gamble. it's fun. you'll be out there during bowls (some of which will be pretty boring) so get some action on them.

but there's a shit ton of stuff to do, and not all of it costs an arm and a leg.

oh and if you're going out there with your girlfriend/wife, go eat at Olives in the Bellagio. it's pricey but the food is fantastic.

The Hoover damn was pretty cool. I also made the 5 hr drive to the Grand Canyon, but that might be a bit much for your kids. The aquarium at the Mandarin was nice, a lot of sharks.

oh yeah the carnegie deli is good. Go eat at Canter's Deli in Treasure Island too. good lord. you'll stand in line looking at the menu thinking "why the hell should i pay $15 for a reuben or a club". then you'll eat 3 bites of the sandwich and think "damn i'd pay $30 for this". honestly at both places the sandwiches are big enough to share (if you're budget minded at lunch).

" Record Report

Statement as of 7:20 am PST on December 18, 2008

... Las Vegas hits the Jackpot for snow in December...

An all-time record snow for the month of December in Las Vegas was set yesterday December 17th 2008. 3.6 inches of snow was measured at the National Weather Service office located about 2 miles
southwest of McCarran International Airport. This broke the record for the most snow ever in the month of December in Las Vegas since the start of official records in 1937 which was 2.0 inches on
December 15th 1967. This is now the 8th greatest snowstorm ever in official Las Vegas weather records for any month. The 3.6 inches of snow measured yesterday also set a new daily record for snow for December 17th breaking the old record of a trace set in 1992.

Measurable snow has only fallen on 5 instances since 1937 in the month of December in Las Vegas counting yesterday... 2.0 inches of snow was measured on December 15th 1967... 0.4 inches of snow fell on December 5th 1972... 1.0 inch of snow was recorded on December 6th 1998 and more recently 1.3 inches of snow was recorded on December 30th 2003. Thus the 3.6 inches of snow that fell yesterday is the most snow to ever fall on a calender day in December in Las Vegas.

The 3.6 inches of snow that fell at Las Vegas yesterday was the most snow to fall in Las Vegas from a single storm since 7.8 inches of snow from January 30th through February 2nd in 1979.

December 2008 will now rank as the 6th snowiest month ever in Las Vegas since 1937. The snowiest month ever was way back in January 1949 when 16.7 inches fell. The last time this much snow fell in any month in Las Vegas was in January 1979 when 9.9 inches fell.

Snowfall records in Las Vegas were recorded at McCarran International Airport through January 31st 1996 and since February 1st 1996 have been kept at the NWS office on Dean Martin Road.

In addition... a daily liquid precipitation record was set at McCarran International Airport yesterday with 0.73 inches of precipitation recorded. This broke the old record of 0.44 inches for December 17th set in 1940.

This additional preciptation brought the December monthly total up to 1.02 inches of liquid. This makes for the 9th wettest December on record.

Also... the high temperature on December 17th only reached 39 degrees. This broke the previous low maximum temperature record of 43 degrees set in 1967. "

I was out in Vegas this past week and the snowstorm was SICK. I walked out of the Mirage around 3ish on Wednesday afternoon and it was snowing pretty hard. Absolutely surreal to see it snow on the Strip. The entire place was freaking out.

It was weird how the amounts varied though. I was down near the intersection of LV Blvd (the Strip) and Flamingo and there was snow in the palms and a faint dusting on the ground, however up by Mandalay Bay/Luxor there was close to 3" on the ground and going down Flamingo to the Palms/Rio section there was close to .5" on the ground.

Was gorgeous to look at it, however it screwed up my flights pretty good the next day. But oh well, getting stuck in Vegas an extra day wasn't the worst thing ever.

I doubt any of the outdoor stuff will be happening. The Siren show at Treasure Island, Water Fountains at Bellagio, and the Volcano at The Mirage are awesome.

how does one creep on a woman.... I'm visualizing a dude crawling up the back of a girl who's seated at a bar... but i'm guessing that's not what you meant.

i think creep refers to the Jersey shore lingo... My favorite one is "grenade". It refers to the ugly chick in a group of chicks that your buddy has to go jump on to save you.

fuck this dumb shit about watching the lions sleep in mgm. That takes 30 seconds. What you actually should do is get the lion's name changed to Russell Wilson

I stayed at the MGM and it was great, but gambling is also expensive. Walk next door to the tropicana, $5 Black Jack during the day. Its the cheapest you'll find. They also have a cheap buffet which is awesome. Also go eat at the Hard Rock Cafe. They have a secret deal called the $7 meal. Some local told us about it. Huge plate of Steak and Potatoes and its awesome. But you have to ask for it, not on the menu.

If your going out.. Caesars Palace has a club on top of their hotel which is a ton of fun.

Dont buy coupons for clubs on the road, they don't work, their scams.

Ride the stratosphere... its insane. $30 bucks, but its worth it.

nah, you can get cheaper. old vegas or some shit like sahara. If you get a nice-sized group and its not too busy, you can also just get them to open up a lower limit table.

That said, blackjack is boring. Poker tourneys take too much time. Craps is where it's at
