Just simply isn't true. Team spent a ton this offseason and had a very good offensive line and a very functional defense. They did a terrible job the second half of the season containing favre and going away from their running attack and creative use of Leon Washington.
No this team certainly had enough talent to be in the playoffs, I'm not blaming him completly but I'm not going to say he got more out of that team then their talent. He got out of them what they were, a slightly above average 9-7 team.12/29/2008 10:55:17 AM |

I didn't say they didn't have talent....I said they were sub-par meaning they played sub-par. So my point was I didn't feel the team performed up to their potential and he took the blame and shouldn't have. I agree they had some talent. 12/29/2008 11:03:15 AM |

this team started winning games when Mangini limited Favre to short passes
but then they won a bunch in the row, fucked up the Titans, and Favre started to think he could air it out again. And Mangini let him.
I feel no sympathy for either of them. 12/29/2008 11:09:10 AM |

I've criticized him all season because I wanted someone other than the Pats to win the division. He never seemed to really grasp what his team was built for but it was quite obvious. This team retooled the OL with some big additions and their OL was solid and Thomas Jones had a great season. Brett Favre and Mangini were the reason this team failed to make the playoffs. Mangini for not setting Favre straight and Favre for playing terrible, so I expect Favre to soon hit the door as well.
With a QB who was just playing average, this team would have made the playoffs. Their D was playing well and it's got some young pieces so it has a good future, and their running game is solid with the one-two punch of Jones and Washington to go with their solid OL. Favre throwing, what, 2 TD's and 9 INT's in their last 5 or so games is what did them in. I mean look at the Denver game. Thomas Jones has over 100 yards rushing and 2 TDs in the first half...then gets like 4 carries in the 2nd half. That just doesn't make sense.
Oh well, out with Mangina. Of the current vacancies, this one would appear to be the most appealing for a coach because they have so many pieces but are lacking at QB with Favre more than likely retiring. I just hope the Jets don't do something stupid like try to sign Cassel for too much money. 12/29/2008 12:42:45 PM |

It's the Jets. They'll draft Tebow in the first round. 12/29/2008 12:55:29 PM |
