I'm using it right now to learn some Mandarin because I'm going to China in May. I'm only a few lessons into it, and I'm finding it easier than I anticipated. So far, i've done nothing but look at pictures of objects and actions and matched words and phrases with them. It's an interesting way to learn, but one thing I don't like is how I don't literally know what each word in a phrase means.

For example, they will show a picture of a women and a dog running next to a car, and I can say the sentence that means something along the lines of "The dog and woman are running next to a car", but I don't know what each word in the sentence by itself means. I can pick out the nouns like "dog" and "woman", but I don't know if a particular word means "are" or "next to" or if thats just what I'm anticipating as their meaning....like the actual sentence could be, "The dog and woman are running with a car" or "behind a car", because I don't know each individual word's meaning. I don't know if the teaching style differs as you get deeper into the lessons.

I'm pretty sure it clarifies those kinds of things as you get into it. I remember being confused a few times and then a following lesson cleared it up for me. Obviously there are going to be more cases of that at first while your vocabulary is limited.

That being said, I've only had to look up translations for words a few times.

that is good to know. i took spanish in high school so i am hoping it comes back fast. i know how to conjugate but not in my head quickly for conversation.
