I've noted that the hot pipe in my kit that mounts between the turbos has a flange opening that is 2 1/8" x 3 1/16", and the turbine inlet to my HT3B is roughly 2" x 3." Does anyone see a problem with the idea to pull the turbine housing and gently enlarge the opening some, adding a gentle radius (which is currently not present)? I'm concerned with it becoming a hot spot and adding unnecessary turbulence to the mix
Here's the turbine inlet:

not really worth the effort for a negligible result
[Edited on January 8, 2009 at 9:30 PM. Reason : you're talkin about a 1/16" radius on a 3" opening] 1/8/2009 9:29:35 PM |

IM THA KING OF COUNTRAY WESTERN, TURBODORES
count em, TWO, turbos... well the kit uses the stock turbo as the second stage (which will probably be replaced judging from the shaft play)
we'll see where we get with the power.
I've already cleaned up the interior welds on the hot pipe, fab guy did a decent job, but i would like to think i helped a little hahah. I havent touched the turbo...well... let's just say the compressor outlet is a little greasy
so what would be worthy of grinding? 1/8"? just curious, as i am a whore for smooth surfaces

hahahaha that's what i wanted to hear
it's like adding that last pinch of salt to an entire pot of chili, and it making all the difference
seriously tho, the upgrade will not be for a while due to budget constraints. Looking like springtime will be good for a kick off

COMPOUNDS FTW!
yeah, i'd got ahead and smooth/port match that out. doubtful it will make any real difference, but every little bit counts when we're talking about keeping egt's happy. don't forget to adjust/trim any gasket accordingly.
if any of ya'll run across a 12v 6bt anywhere for a steal, let me know. 1/8/2009 11:59:19 PM |

yeah, i'm just casually looking for an engine. part of my plan in buying a gasser excursion was/is to put a cummins in it eventually. so, even though the actual swap will probably be a while, if i ran across a sweet deal on one i'd go ahead and grab it. it's practically a bolt in affair with a combination of stock dodge/ford parts and stuff from http://www.destroked.com . with it all said and done, my total investment would still be under what powerstroke models are selling for and i'd have a much better engine to boot. 1/9/2009 5:32:49 PM |

it will give you a better inlet flow profile and reduce teh pressure drop across your turbo
but...like someone else said, the effects will probably be negligible 1/9/2009 7:16:33 PM |

whatever, 4r100's are AWESOME transmissions.
i'd love to do an allison 1000 or 4l80e at the same time, but by the time you get a transmission and a stand alone controller it's $texas. i have no desire to get wild with the power anyway. just a gsk, bhaf, and basic pump tweaks.
if i was to do a transmission swap, it would be a 47rh. relatively cheap to buy, no electronics, ford t-case bolts up, and no changes required to the crossmember or driveshafts. only other thing i'd consider would be a manual of some variety like the zf6, nv5600, g56, or something. i haven't seen/heard of anyone putting a manual in an excursion, but i doubt it'd be too much trouble using f250/f350 parts (pedals, master cylinder, etc.).
all that's just pipe dreaming though. the ultimate goal of a repower is k.i.s.s. and as cheap as possible, which dictates using the stock transmission, at least initially. 1/9/2009 11:43:30 PM |

4r100, ftw
haha, BBR you could go with a 47RE and get the suncoast controller....well shit there goes your money, but full programming and the potential for paddle shifters seems rad. 1/10/2009 5:45:51 PM |
