I loaned my laptop out to by brother (bad idea) while I was out of country for a few years. I just got back and it doesnt really work. I took it to a computer repair shop and they said that where the power input connects to the mother board was broke and I would have to replace the mother board (or else i cant charge my comupter). They said it would cost about $150 but there was no guarantee that it would be fixed, you just do it and see if it works. Its a Dell 5160 (If i remember right). I have the disk to reinstall xp but the problem is with the power connection.

Anyone have any advice or can to fix it?
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

got any pics? if it's just the connector it might be something that can be soldered. i know a lot of those are pretty common to breakage and people on here can fix them for basically the cost of parts ($40 I think)

If its a few years old, just get a new one.

If not, you should be able to solder it back on like schpenxel said.

A computer repair service that doesn't actually service computers but still gets money for it. Why didn't I think of that?

I'd just put the money toward a new laptop.

And consider yourself lucky... when I was 'out of the country for a few years' my uncle wrecked my car and junked it before taking the nice, nice stereo system out.

Well, to be fair... if your dog died 6 months ago you should be getting that letter via pouch in a few weeks.

Oh yeah, they probably had e-mail in Mexico.

Blinkin: I thought it felt a bit drafty. Cor, this never would have happened if your father was alive.
Robin Hood: He's dead?
Blinkin: Yes.
Robin Hood: And my mother?
Blinkin: She died of pneumonia while... oh, you were away...
Robin Hood: My brothers?
Blinkin: There were all killed by the plague.
Robin Hood: My dog, Pogo?
Blinkin: Run over by a carriage.
Robin Hood: My goldfish, Goldie?
Blinkin: Eaten by the cat.
Robin Hood: [on the verge of tears] My cat?
Blinkin: Choked on the goldfish.
[pause]
Blinkin: Oh, it's good to be home, ain't it, Master Robin? "
