^^^ January is always the best time of year for the Yankees. They are spending $$$ on stars and the season hasn't started so they haven't had a chance to underperform yet.

Dwindling fanbase? Based on what? The consistent breaking of attendance records league wide every single year?

V my guess is that was the segment on the economy. All sports will be hit by that. Corporate seats are not being filled in any major sport (save football, because they are MUCH cheaper since they are only used 8 times a year) right now because companies can't be seen as spending irresponsibly...

To be honest, I got that impression from several real sports/outside the lines/sports reporters type comments that I have seen semi-recently. I don't really have any statistics to back it up and I could be completely wrong.

I think it said something about the actual attendance being down because of corporate seats not being filled and TV ratings are down big time.

The best way to get into baseball is to find one player you really like and follow him/his team. That's what I did and I went from being a baseball hater to a fan in a couple of seasons of keeping up with it.

I am a baseball fan first and foremost. I don't like the Redsox or the Mets, but I respect anyone who is a true fan of the game as many of the people on here regardless of who they root for. So anyone who is a true fan of the game of baseball is excited about the upcoming season and all it brings.
