i'm guessing you are going by your critical opinion and not box office performance?
and when you go to the movies do you go in specifically looking for things to hate and reasons not to enjoy it? 1/12/2009 4:40:00 PM |

Southland Tales Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
I wouldn't consider Wanted, QoS, or Cloverfield a bad film. 1/12/2009 4:43:48 PM |

lol, no I don't look for reasons to dislike things.
but when I laugh maybe twice at a comedy like Z&M, the movie is not enjoyable for me.
and when writing is terrible and ridiculous for things like Cloverfield, Hancock, Wanted, the movie is not enjoyable for me.
Wanted and QoS are probably the best movies on this list, but they still had a silly number of problems. The main one in QoS being the incredibly weak villain. Wanted relied on unclever plot twists, and used witty, pissed off voiceover to an incredibly annoying level. It also just wasn't very original in general, especially borrowing from the matrix.
Like I said, these are just of movies I've seen this year and I'm probably forgetting some. I mean if I'd seen disaster movie, Twilight, eagle eye, the mummy, four christmases, sex and the city, etc. then some of these remotely OK movies would not be in my bottom ten. 1/12/2009 4:59:22 PM |

In Los Angeles, a city on the brink of chaos overshadowed by the growth of the underground Neo-Marxist movement, the film follows the criss-crossed destinies of Boxer Santaros (Dwayne Johnson), an action film actor stricken with amnesia; Krysta Now (Sarah Michelle Gellar), ex-porn star in the midst of creating a reality TV show; and twin brothers Roland and Ronald Taverner (both played by Seann William Scott), whose destinies – on one evening – become intertwined with that of all mankind." |

Cloverfield just felt like a rehashed version of the Blair Witch Project. Only I think that movie did more by showing less. Cloverfield also left you with questions, but nothing I cared to think about 5 minutes after watching it. 1/12/2009 6:32:52 PM |

^I'm gonna go ahead and disagree.
Freeman saying shoot this motherfucker didn't make up for annoying voiceover and ridiculous plot for me.
and I'm not saying OMG CURVING BULLETS, RIDICULOUS, I'm saying ridiculously bad and contrived and incorrectly thinking it's clever.
just my opinion.

what makes you think its aim was "clever"?
i think you expected too much from it and it "let you down"
thats not the movie's fault
then again, i don't take seriously the opinion of people who saw half the movies on your list
so carry on with your incorrectness 1/12/2009 11:58:19 PM |
Bweez All American 10849 Posts user info edit post |
Haha, trust me, I certainly did not "expect too much from it"
and think what you want, it's not like I went into "half the movies" on my list thinking, OH BOY, THE HAPPENING! THIS IS GOING TO BE AWESOME. I work at a theater. I watch movies. I do things like screen prints/have friends that do in fact say, OH BOY, ZOHAN, so I go watch it if I have nothing else to do. if you didn't see any bad movies in 2008 then I'm happy for you.
and shit, I was called incorrect for disliking a movie that utilizes fate, magic healing tubs, multiple matrix gimmicks, and angsty-fed-up-cubicle-slave-that-isn't-gonna-take-it-any-more voiceover. I lose. 1/13/2009 12:22:04 AM |

LOL, so you're gonna be "that guy".
Yes. And I posted the Quote : | "Worst movies of 2008 that i've seen, off the top of my head" |
and I think you missed the point,
"utilizes fate, magic healing tubs, multiple matrix gimmicks, and angsty-fed-up-cubicle-slave-that-isn't-gonna-take-it-any-more voiceover."=BAD.
post your list then? Wait, you don't watch bad movies I guess.

So by saying Wanted sucked because it was ridiculous, you must have also hated "Shoot 'Em Up" and "Crank" as well I take it? If you did that's fine, just trying to make sure you hate all of these types of movies.
But I'll agree with Indy, Zohan, and Hancock. I can add Semi-Pro and The Ruins as well. I've also heard that "The Happening", "The Day the Earth Stood Still", and "The Strangers" were all terrible. 1/13/2009 12:28:49 AM |
Woodfoot All American 60354 Posts user info edit post |
not "gonna", "am"
and no, i did not pay to watch a bad movie this year
and since i don't work at a theater, know anyone who does, i get to spend my time watching movies that are worth it
and you keep harping on these things about wanted that aren't nearly as bad as you're making them out to be
i personally loved the voice-over the movie actually made me re-evaluate the scottish kid in the same way bourne identity made me look differently at matt damon
i'm not going to say i loved the action, but i thought it was above the curve for MODERN-ACTION-MOVIE
plus, i love hitmen/assassin movies, so some of it was really really fun to watch
once again - it was a fun, popcorn movie
i left work early one day, because i figured nobody i know would want to watch it, and caught a matinee i saw it again within like 3 days and one more time in the theaters before it left... 1/13/2009 12:33:17 AM |

OK. You liked it, high five. I thought it was among the ten, maybe 15 after remembering some, worst I've seen this year. Our tastes differ. I'm glad we could come to this conclusion. I'm going to try to stop arguing now. Good writing is probably my most highly valued trait in a movie. And I thought Wanted's was poor, that's it. I agree, the action scenes were fun.
Oh, I also forgot Transporter 3.
