My solution for being out of work: waitressing for a bit. Less stressful and decent pay if you work hard.

I have the impression that some of YOU PEOPLE have never had a really difficult job in your life and you don't really want a job, you want a specific type of cake ass easy job.

Tell you what, try having a job toting around 60 lbs. pieces of die cast metal all day until your forearms are as cut up as an emo kid's and you can barely pick your time card up to clock out at the end of the day and then tell me how tough it is to be out of work.

Anybody, and I mean ANYBODY can get a job, it's just that most people aren't willing to work.

Edit: No, but I think I know the guy who does, assuming you mean the one on Timber Drive West.

^^^dizzam. called the fuck out.

I got one to top you. I drove a goddamn garbage truck and had to dump the cans too, for a couple months after high school.

I sandblasted and painted big industrial shit. Came home gritty as hell and looking like a fucking smurf.

Shit. I've worked, alright.

ive been getting paid $$$ to sit in my office and occasionally do work

the lack of actual work to work on has bored me to the point that i volunteered for severance pay (massive layoff going on) and get a new job just so it can keep me more busy and i can be around civilization

Yes, even now McDonald's is hiring. Of course most people who are unemployed are too good for McDonald's.

I guess when you grow up poor, and not, "I was so poor I only had a Sega not Sega CD," but actually poor you have a different appreciation for a paycheck.

I'd wager he is.

Hard work teaches you a lot.
Life lessons and such.
Hard times have the potential to make you a better person.

GOD DAMN RIGHT

My job requirements: at least 2 large flat panel monitors, at least one recent workstation, unfiltered Internet access, and a huge disconnect between management's perception of the job difficulty, and the actual job difficulty

I, too, have had shitty jobs BEFORE and DURING college

worked in a kennel for 2 years in high school cleaning up dog shit
worked in warehouses pretty much all through college, lifting WAY more than 60lbs
worked at the airport slinging luggage and cargo

you are not special for having hard jobs in your life. you are just special for not having the sense to gain the knowledge to work less and get paid more.

Just a lot of threads complaining about firing/restructuring of the company/cutting back on 2 ply tp. etc... I mean I'd be thankful to have a job.

snewf offered payment way back if he found a job lead. so just following his great idea.

having a master's doesn't mean i get a job. so SOL.

I don't mind a 10.00hr job right now but I would like to find an actual career job since I am done with school and would like to start my own life.

I too went to and graduated from college and am no longer doing manual labor. However, during the summers and in fact during most of college I had a full time job. Hell, my Dad tried to get me on in on a much more miserable shift (3rd shift aluminum die cast) so that I wouldn't be tempted to not finish college. My parents could have paid for me to go to school, but they didn't because they wanted me to be motivated. Most of the people you see fucking up, failing out, etc. don't have any motivation because they don't want to be there or don't appreciate how fortunate they are.

Anyone who doesn't believe that things like hard work, earning a living, and paying your own way don't teach valuable lessons is fucking crazy. You don't appreciate things nearly as much if they're given to you compared to if you earn them.

I don't have a working class hero mentality, I hate unions and pity people who are incapable of advancing their station in life, but I appreciate the things I've earned. through hard work.

No, I don't think I'm "better" because I've had shit jobs, but I also don't want to hear people bitching about not being able to find a job when in fact they can. Beggars can't be choosers. That's all I was getting at.

You need experience AND education. In this economy, you need a little of both to find a good job. If you have just an impressive education and no professional experience, getting any job (without knowing someone) isn't like it used to be.

no, it's the same. you have to be willing to accept the fact that EVERYONE has a degree, and you are going to have to start entry level no matter where you work. the myth that having a degree guarantees you a $60k job was the same when I graduated as it is now.

^^^ while I'll agree with the experience part as well, I know a lot of companies are willing to GIVE you experience/train you on the job if they see you as a worthwhile employee that will stick around a while

haha, basically at my job, they said "that's a nice masters degree. yep, glad you got that piece of paper. now, we'll show you how to use it"

Shit, a lot of places just want to see that you had the brains and willpower to get some kind BA or BS. In almost every case people straight out of college require lots of training. Even if you get hired on at a place you've already interned/Cooped at you're still starting off with as the least knowledgeable person there.

while i am certainly glad to have a job, the daily grind still wears on you. coupled that with the fact that your position isn't a good fit for your work preferences. i prefer turning wrenches and doing hands on work rather than sitting at a computer all day, but there's not much of that involved in project management. so sometimes you just need to vent or else risk dying of a heart attack. and as the saying goes, misery loves company. so one bitch story leads to another.

i've had a job of some sort since i was 14, starting with cleaning people's yards and mowing church lawns, various warehouse jobs and trade/service jobs, etc.
