My high school did a white and black version of all the superlatives, homecoming king/queen, etc. Our prom was integrated, but we still had a black homecoming king/queen and a white one. That was also 1997.

^ My high school had a majority and minority homecoming king/queen and that was in Raleigh
1/17/2009 3:15:22 AM
really? there are racists in the deep south?huh
1/17/2009 3:27:44 AM
^ It is surprising that a school would still be engaged in segregating a school function.
1/17/2009 3:33:40 AM
i am not shocked. i am also not shocked that this occurred in mississippi.

I wish the fuckers that organized the white-only prom on the side would just hurry up and die... age faster or just stand in front of trains, I don't give a fuck which. Also, the kids who actually agree with the aforementioned parents... none of my preferred solutions would be considered humane by any stretch of the imagination.[Edited on January 17, 2009 at 4:42 AM. wolfpackgrrr, which school did you go to that had that?
1/17/2009 5:48:13 AM
the seperate king/queen thing, i maaaybe could see b/c the likelihood of a black couple being chosen at a mostly white school is pretty much nil. but, do you bar the black kids from being in the 'main' competition? what happens to the asian, hispanic, and multiracial kids--do they get lumped in with the black kids or do they self-identify?[Edited on January 17, 2009 at 6:26 AM. i grew up in NC, in a rural area, and lived for 2 years in the FL panhandle (lower alabama), and I've never even heard of any of this stuff. that blows my mind.

I came up in a rural ass area of NC in the mid 90s, and this bullshit is foreign to me.fucking embarrassing. It's no wonder the deep south is the laughing stock of civilized society.[Edited on January 17, 2009 at 9:47 AM. Reason : adsfdffdd]

the whole story isnt told here, a lot of the schools around here hold private proms, its not a school sponsored event in any way, the students organize and fund it, and hold it offsite, very common around here, because of that reasonit's also not unusual for clubs and bars in the bigger cities in this area to charge a $1 cover charge for whites and $100 for blacks, is it lillegal? no, does it work? for the most part, yes[Edited on January 17, 2009 at 2:24 PM. Reason : there is no area in nc this rural, i'm talkin about deliverance country down here]
1/17/2009 2:20:26 PM
did the school not sponsor it because they could not afford it or for the reason that they want to hold separate events?
1/17/2009 2:22:05 PM
both
1/17/2009 2:23:07 PM
