This will be my first Dave concert. I'm excited.

I haven't bought concert tickets in about 9 months. Is this the norm now?

Section LAWN, Row 9, Seat # 69
Adult $30.50
Parking Fee $7.50
Ticket Fee $13.25
Charity Fee $2.00
TICKET TOTAL $53.25

I don't think I'll be buying any more concert tickets if this is the mark-up now. $30 ticket and $23 in "other fees" is absolutely ridiculous.

haha

i havent seen the charity fee before but the ticket fee is prob the convenience charge. They still put it to you big time. I have heard that you can go to the box office and avoid many of the fees, but I don't know how true that is

$53 to sit in the lawn
and see the same show they put on every year
with the same band that always opens for them (more than likely anyways)

but Dave Matthews is soooooo awesome that it's worth it!!

New album drops the week before, so I'm stoked. I might just get the ticket at the box office to save some of the costs. It'll be interesting to see their live show post-Roi. I've seen them a few times before at The Creek and they manage to put on a good show.

so does anyone else know if this is standard for concerts now? i bought them through live nation. last year's buffett tickets only had about $10 in extra fees.

i would have trolled the shit out of this thread 4 or 5 years ago

now i'll just slowly shake my head

i didn't realize there were still people going to their first dave show

and yes, corporate show prices are absurd

i get pissed now when i have to pay $15 for a show, mostly because i don't go see people you hear on g105 or whatever the hell radio station you kids listen to in raleigh these days

i will note that i have never paid more than $2.00 in fees for a ticket

and that walnut creek is the second worst concert venue in town

I've heard of the 13.25 which used to be split up as the "online convience fee" and "processing fee"
but a charity fee and parking fee is new to me.

If ticket master wants to donate to charity why the fuck are they going to make us pay for it. This seems pretty socialist to me. The gov't should designate 25% of my income tax into a "charity fee"; since it really is.

I would like to go, but it's a Wednesday at the end of the semester as I am approaching finals.

also, ticketmaster will rape you in fees any chance they get. I like how they charge you a fee to print out the ticket yourself.

^actually no, it was free to have them mailed USPS to me or to print them myself. i was shocked they weren't charging to self-print. but this was LiveNation. Ticketmaster might still charge to print them yourself.

i'm still actually really pissed about this. last year i bought Buffett and Chesney (both of which you'd consider to be really big "corporate" shows) and each of those shows only had about $10 in extra fees per ticket. though i bought those tickets through Ticketmaster, and these tickets were purchased through LiveNation since Ticketmaster wasn't selling them. i wonder if that could be the reason? does LiveNation just charge more?

i would have just waited and bought tickets at the show but i have a friend flying in from chicago and i'm taking two days off work, so showing up to tailgate and finding no lawn seats for sale (or finding them for sale even higher than $50/ea) would really be a bummer.

I'd imagine it's so they don't sell too many tickets - Even though it's the lawn, I would think they at least have a maximum capacity estimate.

that makes sense, i've just never known them to do that in the past. i think they are going through a lot of different owners because they keep changing the name of the place so maybe they are just changing the policies and shit too. who knows. im tryin to see dave in raleigh and charlotte this year. i saw him front row in charleston last year and it was sick

Gotcha... I've noticed it on tickets for several shows but don't know how long they've been doing that. I listened to DMB more years ago but haven't as much lately. I've enjoyed the shows I've been to - just gets too expensive!

yeah it's unbelievable how much they can get away with charging. i'm sure clear channel gets a shit ton of the money without doing any work. it's a shame because more people would come out if it wasnt so expensive

We did this last year and it was terrible. the verizon amphitheater in charlotte has the worst traffic conditions during shows and no where near enough parking. It took us two hours to get into the venue. the traffic cops where just waving everyone down and we stopped to ask them where we should park and they had no idea. if you go, get there at least three hours early.

I noticed Tickemaster had a map of the lawn and it was sectioned off, but I'm hoping that's not the case.

the lawn at walnut creek normally has a section called "family lawn" which is for those who have little kids. they won't let you carry alcohol into the family lawn. of course, at a dave concert, i'm not so sure the family lawn would be a good idea

^you don't have to be fucked up to enjoy it. i'm just saying that most of the people there will be fucked up. same goes for a buffett concert. i, too, like to judge people solely on the type of concerts they enjoy attending.

so you're saying that there is one type of music that everyone should listen to and one type that everyone should go against?? like this, don't like this, hate this? what kind of generic world do you live in? everyone is entitled to their own opinions. of course, if you want to go along with the crowd like a lemming then that's your prerogative.

Actually, I'm suggesting quite the opposite.

Stop listening to shitty bands in shitty venues and paying way too much money for it.

For the amount of money you spent to sit a few hundred feet from Dave Matthews and let the sound leak into the air, you could go see eight AWESOME local bands that have very diverse sounds at the WKNC benefit, your money would go to charity, and you'd still have enough to buy all the beer you could drink on both nights.

Obviously you don't understand what I'm saying. I like DMB. I want to see them in concert. You don't like them, and that's fine. That is your opinion. You don't want to see them, and that's fine too. But don't come in here and tell me I'm wasting my money on a shitty band at a shitty venue, because it's your opinion and your opinion is not the end-all-be-all of music. Get off your high horse, and get out of this thread. Isn't there a superbly awesome local band that is just begging for you to support them? Geez.
