^^ err... I've known several people with valid handicapped permits, and none of them were handicapped at the time. I've never seen a handicapped permit actually used by a handicapped person

If you are actually handicapped you get the license plate. Some doctors hand out the rearview tags like candy for minor things, and they make them valid for much longer than needed.

I guess what I'm getting at is that if you can get in the car and drive, you don't need special parking. Nobody that's actually handicapped drives themselves anywhere, and someone else (family or friends) ends up using the parking

also, my mom used to take an old lady who couldn't drive and walked with a walker to the places she needed to go once a week. the lady didn't have a car, but had a handicapped placard. should she not have had one?

One of my friends had a handicap hangar that he got after his grandmother passed away. I remember a few occasions where we drove around the Gorman St. park and ride only to find that the lot was full so he just put up his hangar and parked in the handicap spot. To be fair, he said that was the only place he used it. The whole lot would be full and every single handicap spot (like 12 of them) would be empty so it's not like an actual handicap person went without.

Incorrect. Some doctors are dicks and will only give out tags unless you're in a wheelchair permanently. A relative of mine has to go get her tag renewed every five years despite having a permanently fucked up back because the doctor's reasoning is, "Well maybe one day we'll have the technology to fix your back."

They're not meant only for people who are paraplegics. If you have congenital heart disease, you can get one. If you have lung cancer, you can get one. You don't have to be visibly gimpy to get one. If your friends and family are lazy and use your tag when you're not in the car, that's a problem with them, not with you and your doctor who decided you needed one.

I have a handicap tag right now because I had knee surgery in December. I use it all the time because it is very difficult to get in and out of the car with a brace on and crutches. The handicap spaces do provide more room to help people with walking aids move about.

I have a friend who uses her grandmother's handicap placard all the time. She is in her mid 20's and is in no way handicapped, and she sees nothing wrong with doing it. You can't convince her otherwise.

he can walk with those crutches that go around your forearm. the hand control converted car is a tracker. no room for a wheelchair. they have a conversion van that his wheelchair will go in, but he can't drive the van. they only use it on family trips and stuff. the easiest way for him is usually to park close and walk with the crutches.

just know that there are cases where it's a good thing. some people are always gonna exploit things.
