some friends and I are joining a 21+ wooden bat league in the spring. I'm really trying to see if there are any interested parties who can compete at a decent level. Particularly, we KNOW we don't have any catchers yet.

Please lemme know if you're interested.

Good Luck man

I tried to do this with some guys here in Charlotte last year and we got absolutely murdered by these other teams that all had ex college players who still threw like 93

We we like Smalls and they were Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez

I would have loved to play but my elbow is fucked up and I live in California... hopefully you get a full team. I played last year in a wooden bat league in CA and it was really fun...

I'll be the manager. I'll always have a pint of wild turkey and a bag of chaw. Occasionaly I'll give the ump an old workin'.

if it's that league in north raleigh where you play at optimist park then have fun with the umpires. i played there in fall 07, and every game me or someone on my team would get hosed on bullshit calls. i almost got tossed out of a game towards the end of the season because i had gotten so frustrated after so many bad calls. i know you can't expect them to be the best umpires out there, but they're still getting paid to fuck you over.

as far as I know most games are played at Bond Park and the Team USA park. they don't play in N Raleigh at all.

I might be interested in giving this a try. I've played softball recently but it's been since high school that I've done baseball. I used to catch as well, I just don't have any of my own gear. How much time are we lookin at per week?

I'm pretty good when it comes to managing/base coaching. I may not be the greatest athlete but I know the game better than most people I know (I happen to know Joe Morgan so that's why I say most).

And? I'm pretty sure there are a dozen girls on TWW that understand modern baseball better than Joe Morgan.

Such a shame FJM.com is no more.

I'm sure a hall of fame second baseman knows what he's talking about.

Yeah I used to catch all through high school. Don't think I could hit though anymore. Good luck.

As an announcer he is fucking awful.

Baseball version of Billy Packer. Always trying to coach and say what he would do like we care.

what league are you playing in? the MSBL? If it is, i hope you know it is 5,000 just to sign up a team, and the registration deadline was January 10th.

^^some guys I played with in the optimist league last fall are thinking about doing that one...in addition to the huge team fee, you have to travel up to 2 hrs for some games, and i think you have to secure a field on your own for home games.
