i'm looking for a good way to put aside a couple of bucks each month of American dollars. but when i have cash on me it eventually gets spent on bullsh!t. savings accounts don't help much ... lately, i've been buying silver/gold coins, which is cool and definitely a way to save ... but I want to be liquid in case I'm unemployed and need to float rent and bills, etc.


where are you guys putting your cash ... ? i'm not comfortable with the idea putting my cash in a bank. for now I got a stack of Euros and few ounces of silver.

i have a stack of Euros that I kept after a trip to Amsterdam 2 yrs ago. its good i never converted it because I'm definitely not spending Euros here. so saving the Euros was easy.

set up a monthly budget. divide everything by four. take out that much money each week. put in in envelopes according to category. spend only that money in the envelope on only that category. no more money = no more spending for that week. save. (my wife and I have been doing this for two years and paid $30k off in 18 months with 2 young boys to boot.
