We decided to go for a short road trip for the weekend, and neither of us have been to Chattanooga. We'll probably check out the Aquarium (there was a thread on this a few months ago), but what are some of the other things we should check out while we're there?
The inclined train to the top of Lookout Mountain looks pretty cool.
Any comment on Ruby Falls? I seem to think any place that litters their signs for hundreds of miles along I-75 might not be all that great.] 2/7/2009 8:10:41 AM |

ruby falls/ rock city are touristy but pretty cool. I would bet at this time of year, they aren't all that bad crowd-wise. Also, I forget the name, but there is a point int he mountains where you can look out and see 7 states. That was pretty cool as well. 2/7/2009 9:57:43 AM |

I recommend Rock City over Ruby Falls, if you can't do both. It's pretty cool; they've got a killer old-fashioned bridge over a gaping chasm. 2/7/2009 4:31:39 PM |

I thought Ruby Falls was overrated, but then again I was like 10 at the time and didn't give a fuck about a bit of water falling out of a rock wall with cheesy music blaring.
I know we did the inclined train, but I honestly cannot remember a thing about it...
The aquarium is freaking awesome, but that's the only awesome thing I remember, other than just going to the parks and hiking and stuff. 2/7/2009 6:23:41 PM |

The Choo Choo hotel ended up being pretty shitty once we saw the rooms, so we checked out and stayed at the Marriott.
We did the Aquarium, Ruby Falls and the Incline Railway. Ruby falls was pretty cool but they only let us see the waterfall for about 3 minutes before being herded back. We didn't get a chance to go to Rock City, but we might go back someday.
I wanted to go hang gliding, and I actually called to see if anything was available, but they were all booked up ] 2/9/2009 8:44:02 AM |

^ My boyfriend and I did that this past fall and we suggest to anyone to take the one day class that look out offers. It made the actual hang gliding part more fun because we knew how to fly the glider. 2/9/2009 8:54:41 AM |

Should have gone to Gatlinburg instead.
I've been in Knoxville 2+ years and haven't been to Chattanooga yet! 2/9/2009 9:45:30 AM |

The hang gliding was only about $125 per person. And I think it's on the GA side of Lookout Mountain so maybe only 75 miles up the road from where I am. I'll definitely go back there. 2/9/2009 10:17:28 AM |
