Exactly how does it work. One weekend a month and one two-week training period out of the year? And what are your chances of being deployed? What are your chances of being an Officer? Just give any general advice or say anything you think is relevant. Thanks!

since no one has responded yet i'll tell you what i know about the navy reserves

yes, 1 weekend a month and minimum 2 weeks a year training

chances of being deployed probably depend on your skills and the unit you're involved in

not sure about being an officer

and i do know that you get paid for the weekends & 2 weeks on a per day basis and some of the out of town trips involve a per diem and some dont and of course travel and accommodations are paid

Since no one else has offered advice...my father went into the army reserves after active duty. I remember him having meetings once a week and I believe the training was just once a year. However, he was a colonel, so he may have had more/different responsibilities. And you can move up in the ranks, but it's rare. You basically have to wait for someone to die. He ended up retiring from the reserves because there was not a new general spot for him to fill and he was just kinda stagnating.

[Edited on February 7, 2009 at 6:17 PM. Reason : oh, and he was never deployed, but that was before Iraq]

after initial training, that's pretty much it. Also before deployment you'll be training a good bit.

previous administration(s), pretty good chance; current-that is yet to be seen.

pretty good if you have a degree, go to OCS and then branch training and be done with it. Or if you're in school you'll have options to do ROTC, etc. Officer recruiter would know more.

Don't go into thinking you won't get deployed, because then you will. Just expect it. No matter what you do, do your best and don't quit. Follow that you'll be golden. Also if someone higher than you is bitchin you out, STFU n00b and drive on. You're welcome.
