I'm looking at buying a 2006 Infiniti G35 from a friend of a friend. The Carfax report has an accident listed in NY sometime in 2007. Apparently in NY they aren't required to keep a record of exactly what happened, but I do know the damage was in excess of $1000.
The person I'm looking at buying it from had it inspected by a mechanic in October prior to buying it herself and it checked out find structurally and mechanically. She told me I could have it looked at by a mechanic if I wanted to as well.
So my question: Should I buy a car that's been in an accident that is still under manufacturer warranty for another 25,000 miles if it's been checked out and fine. Should I have it looked at again by myself? 2/7/2009 11:57:24 PM |

I owned a car that had been in an accident before. Never had any problems with beyond what you would expect from an older car. 2/8/2009 12:00:26 AM |

Yeah, I just drove it today and looked at everything. It seemed to be fine. I just found out she had it inspected at the Infiniti Dealership, so it puts me at ease a little. I'll still have it looked at myself though. 2/8/2009 12:05:21 AM |

inspected for what? Get it inspected yourself, and talk to the person inspecting it yourself. 2/8/2009 12:08:54 AM |

anyone have any recommendations on where to get it looked at? (Preferably in Cary, but Raleigh wouldn't be terrible) 2/8/2009 7:59:24 AM |

i typically take it to a body shop that has experience with those cars. they can typically look it over with a fine toothed comb and see what there is to see.
then to a mechanic who looks over everything else. 2/8/2009 1:52:20 PM |
