this seems like some heavily scripted propaganda with some mediocre ad-libbing going on

"OMG!! We still use paper and write notes down!! We live in the stone age!!"

1) He sounds like he is still debating

2) Using less paper will cut back on those in the pulp and paper industry

3) I think the problem is not necessarily with the government, but those who do nothing and expect the government to bail them out (ie food stamps, welfare, etc etc.) Not to say that sometimes these things are needed, because let's face it, things do come up, but seriously...let me buy a $50,000+ car with a $30,000/yr job. Please!!!

Just my two cents...

1) i was expecting some laughter from the press, but no....
2) watch it again and you will see in the final split-second before it went to Obama, Chuck Todd was sitting behind the questioner and he gave a big "WTF? Are you serious?" face

Dude

When you motion for "high standards"

You motion above your head

Not below your chin

Geez...wait to motivate the American people and be the "Eternal Optimist"...

agentlion, your mom was an embarrassment

People in general need to take a greater responsibility for what they can control. For those that can't, yes we should help them.

Ahahahahaha.

I looked at my roommate and said pretty much exactly that.

For all his class and articulation, that man was about to say "my ass."

As for the conference, well, it wasn't brilliant in its execution. But I understand the reasoning behind it. On the better end of the scale, he wants to have consistent dialogue with the public, and I'm glad. On the other hand, the whole thing was basically an opportunity to not-so-subtly berate Republicans holding up his bill.

I think he'll get the hang of it sooner rather than later. As a first effort, eh, not too terrible.

Next time someone should remind him to dumb his answers down and water everything down to Bush level and bite-size pointless colloquialisms so that you understand aimorris, ok?

whatever dude, if you're denying that he's long-winded at times, especially in last night's press conference, you're lying to yourself

and I wasn't even talking about the substance of his answers... it was the pausing and uhh in between like every single word

or maybe it's the Super Brainy Obama is too smart for dumb ol me to understand, I dunno

Yeah, it sounded like he was defending himself in a debate. Come on dude, you're the President. You don't need to convince anyone. Just do your durn job and be confident about it.

^ lol. There were questions, it's a serious time - he answered them....and quite thoroughly. Not sure what your point is.

Oh I forgot, you don't have one - you just want something to rail against eh? More tears from conservatives, someone hand me a paddle.

Yes we have to act now before Godzilla arrives. I mean without throwing a bunch of money into the volcano to statisfy the volcano gods this recession will last until late 2009... the horror.

lol, with half of those questions he just went on and on and never directly answered some of them. if that's your cup of tea, then kudos.

I love how he's pushing a sense of urgency! What about how only about 1/2 of the money in the bill would actually be used in year 2009?

While I hate hate hate most of what this economic stimulus bill is composed of, I honestly don't think it would be much different at all had it been McCain up on the pulpet last night and not Obama.

I agree with you mostly. However, I doubt there would have been as many earmarks.. mccain was pretty serious about that. And it sure wouldnt have a govt take over of healthcare buried in it.

I actually was thinking the other day that it would have been substantially different under McCain just because he would have had to work a lot harder than Obama to get it through congress.

I think it's very likely the democrats would have been trying to obstruct things as much as the republicans are now.

Do you think its interesting that there is more bi-partisan support against the bill than against it? In the House 11 Democrats voted against the bill. In the Senate 3 Republicans voted for it.

^ not if you look at it by percentages.

11 democrats in the house works out to about 5% going against the rest of the dems. Vs about 9% of the republicans crossing over to vote for the stimulus.
