At first I was like "Sacrilege!", but it was pretty funny.

I think crew on The Simpsons resisted this for awhile...having to redraw all of those backgrounds, etc...

Next weeks episode is back to SD though...I believe because they arent airing these in order of production. Glad its finally in HD, just wish they had made this happen a few years ago (King of the Hill was in HD for the first time last week, and its being cancelled this year...why bother?).

FUTURAMA did it.

Bender: Hey! Get a load of this pathetic 20th century T.V.
Fry: What's wrong with it?
Bender: Well, aside from causing eye cancer, these things had a lousy low-definition picture.
Amy: That's true. I bet on a T.V. like this you couldn't even make out my obscene tattoo.
Bender: *Whistles*
Leela: That's cute.

i'd imagine they'd be able to reuse some backgrounds and such from the movie

lol, same here

but the show still seems to be good though whenever I've caught it, which admittedly isn't too often

I might have to check this one out

why? the show's actually back to being amusing now that the movie is over

those 2-3 years when all their top writers were working on the movie instead of the show were pretty brutal though, so i can see where you're coming from

i haven't watched the simpsons in a long time, but if the movie was the product of their "top writers" then i know i'm not missing a damn thing.

^^^ Agreed. The movie was awful. The thing I'm pissed at is the CW rarely plays the older episodes when it shows the reruns. They are mostly episodes from the last 6 years, and those are trash.

i thought it was 2/3 fine

but they forgot to write anything after the last commercial break

i also liked the way they broke current continuity to go back to old continuity

last year they had gotten to the point where marge and homer's getting together took place in the 90s (the grunge/melrose place episode)...which makes sense, considering bart would have had to have been born in late 90s... the nature of the floating timeline since characters don't age

but last night, they pushed homer and marge in high school back to 1977-ish, which was the older continuity time period from simpsons of the 90s

but NERD ALERT

i thought the 90s episode was more tongue-in-cheek than continuity

who can tell anymore

but there's no way that if the show takes place in 2009 that bart could have been born before 1999

but then again he's been in the 4th grade for 22 years

well yeah, thats why i don't think its continuity

because i mean, grunge babies would be like 15-17 now

although i don't really remember the episode that well

i just know i found myself rolling my eyes a lot

Damn, I didn't know it was in hd, I recorded it on regular fox. I'll have to update my dvr. And marko, really, I think all ideas of continuity are already out. They've changed the story of how they got together and almost broke up several times, not to mention the fact that you can't have real continuity when characters stay the same age forever.

it's just not funny nor amusing anymore.

[Edited on February 18, 2009 at 12:43 PM. Reason : i still can't believe they killed off futurama for this.]

i love the fact that the simpsons had already been on for longer than most shows make it in the early 90's... the setting for the episode about grunge homer.

i've really been enjoying the simpsons a lot more lately

maybe because i'm feeling a bit more of futurama-like comedic timing in it

Haha, The Fountainhead starring Maggie Simpson. Surely that wasn't implying that the characters were whiners? John Galt, Wah Wah!
