I always wash whites first. Maybe because I think the bleach and hot water cleans the washing machine

First I jerk off into a sock. That helps with static cling.
Then I throw all my clothes in there with one of my dog's toys. I get the feeling this chases the evil spirits away.
Then I'll put exactly 1/3 the amount of detergent the bottle calls for and replace the other 2/3 with barbecue sauce. I like my clothes to be BBQ'ey.
Once that goes through I'll repeat this process through 3 cycles.
Then I take a shit and throw it in the dryer. Don't want my clothes to be all high-falootin' an not smell like shit.

That's pretty much it. It works for me.

I make my own laundry detergent.

Does that count?

I will not take clothes out of the dryer unless they're warm (special exception for whites cause it's just socks and undershirts).

I refuse to put away socks that don't have a matching pair (so there's a few sitting on my desk until I finish this next round of laundry and/or find their cousins).

i do this too

when i've started the water and pour in the detergent, i get rather OCD and fill the detergent cup with water 5 times to make sure i'm utilizing all the detergent in the cup and not wasting any

and it's a ritual in that it's recurring...but...i get rather lazy when it's time to put the clean laundry AWAY. kinda like the big pile upstairs that i should've put away last week, but didnt...and have said i'm going to do tonight, but haven't...d'oh!

I used to think I excelled at laundry, then when we were on Space Mountain I looked down at our pants and realized how stained they were with detergent blobs.

i do this too, but it has more to do with rinsing the cup clean than using all the possible detergent

I always button and zip my jeans, to reduce abrasion on other surfaces
I pretty much turn all my shirts inside out to wash
I, too, rinse the detergent cup (btw, yall should all take a look at the label and detergent cup. Formulas have become more concentrated now, but in an effort to make consumers go through detergent faster, cup sizes have stayed the same, or gotten bigger. I use tide with a touch of downy at the moment, and a regular size load doesn't even take half a cap. Many people are habituated to use a full cap.)
All my clothes are old, so I don't wash by color, but by the durability of the fabric.
I won't put away socks that aren't paired
I don't fold underwear
I group like shirts together

i rarely ever do my own laundry. housekeeper ftw.

i do have her wash my underwear and undershirts separately from the outer clothes regardless of color.

i rinse detergent cup and definitely put the detergent in while the water is running THEN put the clothes in

my clothes have gotten detergent (liquid) stains on them before. which is odd, but they have.

i only take my clothes out of the dryer warm. if i start the dryer, leave, fall asleep, etc and my clothes dry, i still turn it back on to "fluff" them up before i take them out

I used to sort my underwear into I think 7 categories and then stack them by color. Now I'm down to 5 and don't sort by color anymore.

I keep most of my socks in one drawer, but unpaired socks I collect and stick them in the drawer with my boxers/undershirts so that I can try to pair them up next load. Unfortunately it always seems that I have a crapload of unpaired socks.

Also, socks being the same color and approximate length isn't good enough for me. I try to pair socks by pattern of fabric, by brand, etc. so that the pairs match as perfectly as possible.

I hang things in my closet according to color, and lightest shade to darkest shade within each color. Shirts section, pants section, jackets section.

Generally I have four types of laundry loads--towels/underwear (which get washed in hot water), t-shirts/jeans, dress shirts/pants/sweaters, and reds. Between NCSU stuff and a set of burgundy sheets, I can fill up a load easily with just items in the red family.

I keep two underwear stacks--one with boxers, the other with boxer briefs/briefs (the briefs being pretty exclusively for the gym/physical activities) Do not like to mix the stacks.

I, too, have a ginormous stack of unmatched socks that I keep hoping I'll magically find the mates for. But I kinda like wearing mismatched socks. Not sure why.

[Edited on February 19, 2009 at 3:44 PM. Reason : and most of my socks are patterned ones, so I end up wearing a blue and a pink one or something]

haha, i do this too

and the larry david in me also pairs them by elasticity

i also decided when i was younger, and i have no idea why, that i would only use green towels

so i own about 8 green towels

same here, there are always about 3 socks on my shelf in the closet... and i always take socks from the dryer and try to make matches before i put anything away

if they stay on the shelf for more than 4 loads of socks, i toss it. but theres always new ones to take the place.

socks really are a mystery

All of my towels are also green, but for no other reason than I was given green towels to take to college. So whenever I needed a new towel I'd just get another green one. Though I do have several different shades of green.

no way I could wear miss matched socks.

I hate doing laundry. There have been many times where I just bought new clothes to avoid doing laundry.

And after I wash clothes, I hate folding them, so they might sit there for a while.

I sort my t-shirts by theme. Have a sports drawer, a music drawer, a plain drawar and a "others" drawer

I do the exact opposite- if I am lucky, I won't have to end up wearing my least favorite boxers because by the time they come up again, I'll have already done another load of laundry
