That depends.

Do you:

Wanna get strong???
Wanna get lean???
Wanna get RIPPED???

Because all it honestly takes it doing a few pull-ups a day and you'll look just like the guy on the commercial. Don't worry about changing your lifestyle or eating habits.

I'm looking to lose weight right now.

I'm trying out a workout routine I found on Mens Health. I got a weight station at home that will do most of the exercises. Theirs a few involving chinups and pullups.

I've read some reviews on it. It seems to do fine hanging on the door frame.

I saw a YouTube video last night of one guy hanging upside down on it doing crunches. I was scared he was going to fall on his head

my sis got me one for xmas, I'm just under 200lbs and it holds me just fine, I use it quite often to just overcome boredom, it's left some black prints around the frame but I can likely just magic erase them away when I move out

it does bend in the middle if you do close grip/neutral grip stuff, I'll also hang upside on it and do ninja pull-ups...hasn't slipped on me, yet.

i've got one. it's pretty stable and it looks like most of the weight gets applied to the door frame so that it presses against the wall - not so that it would pull the trim off. worth $30 IMO.

i've got one, and I love it. I would suggest putting some additional padding on the plastic bar that sits on top of the door frame, as continued use may show up on your wall.

[Edited on March 20, 2009 at 9:01 PM. Reason : does anyone know how safe is it for upside down crunches?]

i wouldnt do any upside down exercises, its not that stable. if it falls on pullups you land on your knees not your head. plus the swinging motion of sit ups would make it less stable than just the downward force of pullups

Our friends had one. Looks like it'd break the molding off the wall to me.

I love mine. I live in an older apartment and I use the little support piece that comes with it to help transfer a small amount of the load off the door frame. It's a little metal tab, also helps if you're upside down on it and think it might slip. I weight around 240 and over a few months the only thing i have noticed is small finger indentations in the foam on the close grip

I got mine today. I can't do any pullups or chinups on it. I'm weak. I can't pull myself up. I can at least do the situps and pushups til I get stronger.

finally picked one of these up and yeah it works great. as someone said, the long cross bar cinches itself to the opposite side of the door where the hanging part is, so all the weight isn't distributed on the moulding. the dips they show are kind of a joke though

I recommend giving yourself a little bit of a jump so that you are at the top of the pullup position and then slowly let yourself down (as slow as you possibly can)

do that a couple of times a day, pushups and situps are a good start but I think doing negatives as described above will get you closer to an actual pullup in less time

^also you could have a chair under it and rest one foot on the chair so that if you're arms can't handle all the weight, you can still go through the motions with as much weight as you can through your arms and pushing a bit with your leg for the rest

just be sure to use as little help as possible or you won't be gaining much arms-wise
