But seriously, completly ignoring the distribution issue, there aren't many issues with it. It does have higher NOx emissions than gasoline, but its still better than diesel. I also believe CNG doesn't get you quite as much combustion power, either, compared to gasoline. Another potential downfall is the larger tank size required and the typical reduced range on a tank of CNG compared to gasoline.

b/c NG is expensive as hell.

takes longer to fill up unless you use a commercial filling station. that fill up at home shit takes a few hours or overnight / same as electric.

correct, less energy per gasoline gallon equivalent

I see gas company trucks running on it all the time, but it's practically free to them. As mentioned above, it's not greener, cheaper, more efficient or safer than gasoline.

I was driving to work behind a CNG Chevy Cavalier coming into work today.

The city of Seattle had a pretty nice fleet of CNG vehicles for several years and everyone pretty much universally loved them. The problem was that OEM's stopped producing them or supporting them.

They sell em at fleet auctions now, though it's usually only the trucks because the cars will run almost indefinitely (they actually worked out service contracts with the local dealerships to maintain them).

Apparently ~6000 bucks will get a 2000-2002 Ford E250, or Dodge 2200 (Ram2500 equivalent)

And at least out here there are a smattering of CNG fill stations around the state, and dealers will service them. But CNG is expensive as fuck, and it would require gas to reach over $5 a gallon to be economically better.

Natural gas prices are extremely volatile, and all it will take is a hot summer and a small shift towards natrual gas fueled vehicles to send prices skyrocketing out of sight.

i've had to drive a natural gas powered van for the city of raleigh, and it is a pain in the ass to fill up. shit takes literally 10 or 15 minutes... might not sound like long, but considering it has to be refilled often because natural gas isn't as potent as gasoline, it becomes taxing.

The public transport in New Delhi(India) runs on CNG.. It reduces the performance a little bit, but it really doesnt matter for public transport.. Its way cheaper than gasoline over there..
