I have never owned a HD camcorder so I can't really make a good judgment whereas is this a 'get what you pay for' type thing, or is it a real deal?

did i miss something or does it really have no internal storage or support for removable storage - it has a battery which makes me think it doesn't have to be tethered to work...

It has to have some sort of storage capability or how could it be a 'corder?

It says its a card reader, so I assume SD cards?

I was thinking that, but first I'll scour the web for consumer reviews, and see if Cnet has anything on them.

Check this thread on Slickdeals where some guys are talking about it. Seems like it actually might be alright:

"I picked one up just now - i dont ahve time for any indepth review or even to upload a video sample - sorry flight to catch shortly.. But overall impressions: Similar feel to Aiptek. Plasticy, light, but seems as durable as the others. You can adjust recording quality to extend recording time between any of these resolutions: 1280 x 720, 720 x 480, 640 x 480, 320 x 240

Sound is good enough - typical - honestly i'd compare this to the AipTek A-HD. The video quality is fantastic for 60 bucks.

Comes with driver cd, software for converting ACVHD, USB AC charger, headphones, Mini HDMI cable (My HF100 didnt come with one!), composite video out cable, usb cable and case.

The buttons are pretty small except the shoot and zoom buttons - no biggie imho, and the lens is fixed, can switch between macro and landscape shot for distance. Lens doesnt ahve much protection so probably want to keep in case. "

This thing might be a decent bag for the buck.

Well, I have not seen any reputable reviewing on it yet, and little or no consumer reviews. These are factors that I normally go by in general.

I got a nicer one for $130 from amazon and have been pleased with everything but the firmware. For some reason still images are disabled.

depending on what type of video you are going to shoot, this may be disappointing. camera this light without image stabilization may produce wither barely watchable or unwatchable video due to shaking (depending on angle of view of that fixed lens ). I have an Sanyo HD2 that is a lot heavier (and thus stable) than any of the cams above, and unless it is mounted on a tripod, which comletely defeats the purpose of a pocket camera, digital image stabilization just does not cut it. 38mm equivalent is as wide as internal lens goes, and even with external wide-angle adaptor it looks a bit more smooth, but still not acceptable for my purposes.

i guess what im saying make sure you wither see the actual camara footage from conditions you are likely to film in, or make sure you get it from a store with a good return policy.
